Here is a delicious coleslaw recipe that goes great with fried chicken or my favorite, fried fish. This recipe is best made a the day before you eat or serve it. This also is a great take along side dish to your next barbecue, fish fry or potluck. It’s a great way to use cabbage and makes a great side. You can adjust the salt or sweetness to your taste, but I think this is a good place to start.

INGREDIENTS
1 TO 1 1/2 lbs cabbage
1 shredded medium to large carrot
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tsp grated onion
1/4 tsp onion powder (optional)
3 tbls sugar (adjust to your taste)
1 1/2 tsp salt
pepper to taste
1 tbls juice of lemon
*BE SURE TO REFRIGERATE AT LEAST 12 HOURS for best results
*YOU COULD ALSO JUST USE 1 CUP OF BUTTERMILK

  1. This recipe could do without onion. I followed the recipe and onion threw off the taste. No I didn't put too much onion. Raw onion is just that strong.

  2. I made this recipe today with cabbage my husband grew in our garden and it was AMAZING! It was my first time making coleslaw, and I will NEVER use another recipe. It was delicious 😋. Thank you for sharing this recipe! ❤ Me and my family are forever grateful!!! 😊

  3. Have a question about the cole slaw …. Does the cabbage get soft that makes its easier for older people to chew?

  4. I was a KFC manager 30 years ago and when we would run out of the dressing they would send us we would have to make it from scratch. The only thing I 100% remember was tarragon vinegar, probably because I had a hard time finding it. Try using it instead of the lemon juice. I will have to try your recipe this summer.

  5. I've been looking through all the different coleslaw recipes, never seen one with milk before. And there's a lot of milk. Does this not go into a pool in the bottom of the bowl overnight, or over time?

  6. I've made this recipe over and over and over again and not a miss, everyone including my 7yr old loved it. Thank you so much for sharing this. ❤

  7. Exactly like my recipe with just one difference. I add one can of crushed pineapple. It gives it the citrus taste of the lemon juice with a little more sweetness!
