I went to newly opened Essence in Stockholm yesterday and really enjoyed it. It is a bit off from the city centre but only about a 15 minute cab ride from it and very close to the subway.
It is a small restaurant with only 12 seats and one sitting per evening, with prepaid tickets for food. It starts at six o’clock and everyone has to be out at 9 as it is located in a residential building, but it never felt rushed. Everyone is served at the same time and the chef, Stefan Taylor, presents every course to everyone at the same time.
The quality of food, drinks and service was excellent. Really impressed by the place and how they can run it with only five people working the evening.
Highlights include one of the best tartars I’ve ever had and an excellent pigeon, but everything from canapés to desserts were great, with very nice use of different textures.
It is noteworthy that they cannot accommodate allergies and don’t have vegetarian options, but for everyone else, I’d really recommend a visit.
