• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 (9 inch) deeep dish unbaked pie crust

For 2 traditional pies:

•1.5 pounds sweet potato
• 3/4cup butter, softened
• 1.5 cup white sugar
• 3/4cup milk

• 3/4teaspoon ground nutmeg
• 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust

Directions:

1. Boil sweet potato whole in skin for 40 to 50 minutes, or until done. Run cold water over the sweet potato, and remove the skin.

2. Break apart sweet potato in a bowl. Add butter, and mix well with mixer. Stir in sugar, milk, eggs, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Beat on medium speed until mixture is smooth. Pour filling into an unbaked pie crust.

3. Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 55 to 60 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Pie will puff up like a souffle, and then will sink down as it cools.

***If you get “strings” of potato after you beat the sweet potato, rinse the beaters and mix potato again. Repeat this process if necessary!

  1. Thanks Southern Girl Cooks!
I tried this recipe because it is simple, instructions are easy to follow, and it isn't loaded with a bunch of ingredients. I like that I now know exactly how many pounds of potatoes I need to make 1 deep dish or two regular pies. I hadn't attempted to make a sweet potato pie in over 5 years because it's frustrating to buy ingredients only to trash the finished product. (I'm not a cook by far) I had settled for Patty Pies. Not anymore! Thank You!
My husband and daughter had a home cooked "tater pie" that they are enjoying!
I did bake my potatoes but that's only because I had already placed them in the oven before I decided which recipe I would follow.
I'll be checking out some of your other dishes as well.

  2. I didn't like when she was making a sweet potato pie because when you make a sweet potato pie you supposed to try to remove all the strings from the sweet potato pie she did not rinse the mixer Styx she continue to mix the potato up without removing the strings from sweet potato pie but I guess that's how some people make it hey what can I say so out of 10 I give her a 6

  3. Loved Your Pie Making, Deep Dished, Sweet Potato Pie Recipe and Was So Closely Following Your Recipe, Until I Discovered That You Failed To Admit The Evaporated Or Condensed Milk, To Your Recipe! So Which One Is Supposed To Be Added To Your Deep Dished, Sweet Potato Pie?

  4. This pie looked good, but I like to see cooks make sure that they get all of the strings out of the potatoes, washing the beaters off several times times before adding all other ingredients. I made it a habit of cracking each egg in a clear bowl before I mixed them into whatever I'm cooking. You don't want to make the mistake of putting a bad egg in your food, nor do you want shells in your food.

  5. Thank you so much. Thank you for writing out the reciepe to. God Bless you an yours. Say a prayer for mine.

  6. Awesome Awesome recipe only thing I'll add is 1/2 tsp of lemon extract… Please try it u want regret it takes the pie to a whole nother level 😋😋

  7. I noticed some ppl who makes sweet potato 🥧,they add the egg in too bfre tasting it.I taste my filing first nd if it is at a good sweet taste like I want it,then I'll add in my eggs last.I seen this other lady's YT channel,nd she added 9 eggs into her sweet potato pies.I think she made 4 pies nd I think she used 4 or 5 potatoes.Anyways, she said she uses 9 eggs bc it makes the pie more firmer nd you supposed to use 2 eggs per potato.Do y'all know anybody else that does that nd if so how do it taste.I'm thinking it'll be too eggy idk,she saud that's how her Moma made her sweet potato 🥧

  8. So did you thaw the pie crust at room temperature first or was that crust straight from frozen and then filled?

  9. I bake my potatoes in the microwave for 6 minutes. Taste better than boiled.

  10. Hi Stephanie
New subscriber. I came from Mornings with Granny. She told me about your channel. New to the channel but not the food. The reason I subscribed is so I could see how you fix things that i grew up eating. Thanks for sharing.

  11. I thought a whole stick of butter excessive for 1 potato. What if I were making 10 pies?

  12. This recipe matches my family recipe except I bake my sweet potatoes and I don't use cinnamon.

  13. Similar to mined. I love adding smoked paprika to the sauce, not for color but added flavor. It doesn't over power the taste of the cheese, but marries with it giving it a taste that can only be described as gold.

  14. I noticed you never removed the strings off of the mixer also 1 potatoe with the same amount of ingredients as 3 LG. Potatoes
