After several failed attempts at booking a reservation at Atomix, my girlfriend and I, along with two other friends, made Saturday reservations at Jua and had a wonderful time.
Located in NYC, Jua onlys offers a seven-course tasting menu, with some additional add-ons, and a wine pairing menu. The tasting menu sans additions is $135 while the wine pairing is $95. We all opted for the wine pairing and including an additional Uni Kim course for $32. One member of our party added the $20 abalone to his Jook course, and shared pieces with the three of us.
Each dish was very enjoyable, none of us felt that any dish missed the mark, or was subpar in any way. There were several standouts, including the Jook, which was complex in flavor, had a lovely porridge texture and felt perfect for a cold November evening. The Duck and Chan was also a crowd pleaser, with the distinct banchan offering a unique flavor with each bite. Our final dessert, the Goguma Juak, a sweet potato donut with brown butter ice cream was also outstanding. The ice cream was a fantastic complement to the donut, which were both flavorful and not overly sweet. I will say that the Uni Kim, while tasty, was not worth the $32 addition. Good, but on the lower end of our course preferences. I must also add that while we felt satisfied after our meal, we were all feeling hungry again merely an hour or so later, despite each of us even adding an 8th course to the menu. Not what you want after spending upwards of $135 either. Our dinner also lasted about two hours
The six wines, which are listed under each dish in the last picture, were well-paired with each course. My personal favorites were the Milan Nestarec, which tasted and smelled similar to a pilsner, the Clos Floridene Blanc, and the dessert wine, Raymond-Lafone. I also really enjoyed the Lee Gang Soju, which paired nicely with the Sam-Chi. Some of those dining with us had never had Soju, and could only commit to a few sips of the 25% ABV glass. The pourings for each glass was also extremely generous, and we all left the restaurant feeling very good.
The service was also friendly and welcoming – more attentive than other one Michelin star NYC restaurants I’ve been to, and each dish and pairing was well explained.
Overall, Jua was a great experience that truly felt like a one michelin star restaurant from start to finish, and I recommend it if you are looking for a NYC restaurant in that category.

I really enjoyed Jua when I went a year or so ago. Looks like you got a slightly different menu and that is for the best. They had a very odd tomato dish on the menu that I thought didn’t fit.
