Central Florida, it’s late November now, I started these guys mid September. It was still kindof warm. Top 12“ of my bed is black cow compost and my home made compost. Under that is shitty sugar sand, dead logs, branches, leaves as filler.

The four small ones to the left I started in late October from some Romain hearts I chopped from the store.

It looks good. Maybe it’s just a leaf variety? I’ve noticed that when I start harvesting, it starts producing more leaves. Thicker and fuller too.

They are almost certainly bolting – going to flower. I note that it was from chopped up Romain hearts which while will grow on under the right conditions are always susceptible to bolting.

In my experience (of other leafy vegetables not lettuce), it is not getting enough sunlight. I always thought that the logic behind their straight growth is, they want to reach up to get sunlight.

How warm has it been? Lettuce is prone to bolt when temperatures approach 80 degrees.

That lettuce looks like its flowering…..hence the tall structure with little foliage.
