Hello everyone! This Christmas my partner and I are finally buying ourselves a pressure canner. We want to can items that are not a suitable for water bath canning so are finally taking the leap. I have three ball canning books on the way, and now I’m trying to figure out what I should get as far as a pressure canner.
1) I am wondering if both of these models are good options for canning foods in the non-water bath method.
2) am also confused as to why one of these models is so much more affordable than the other. I’m afraid I’m missing something!
Is one of these models only suitable for water bath canning? Are both (or neither?) good options? Anyone have experience with either? **before anyone recommends… I would definitely probably go w/an all American but sadly that’s not in the budget at the moment.
I really want to make the best informed decision, any help is very appreciated!

Tbh no clue why they have a different price. It seems like maybe Walmart has two listings for the same product
That said I have this 16 qt presto weighted gauge pressure canner. I love it. Super easy to use. I’ve done both pressure canning and water bath canning it in. I think it works great and I like that I don’t have to get a dial calibrated
On Walmart dot com, you can have some items sold by Walmart and some sold by other vendors. It’s relatively common to have multiple listings for the same product.
My guess is that the more expensive item is simply sold by another vendor and Walmart has a much better price.
The cheaper ones is in stock at the store…. The more expensive one is shipped to your house. It’s a very good canner by the way.
Looks like people have answered the question, but does this community have a list of recommended pressure canners? Before I run off and research are there models or brands to get or stay away from?
Get the cheaper one…they both look the same.
Depending on how much canning you’re going to do, you might want to go with the 23 qt canner. You can use it as a waterbath canner, too. Just take the gasket out. My 23 qt Presto will do 7 quarts or 16 pints at a time.
I have a dial and a gauge on mine. It’s nice to be able to check the pressure, but not all things are canned at the same pressure. You need to check your elevation and see what weight you’d be using most at your altitude. Since I’m in the mountains of VA, just over 2,000 feet, I usually need a 15-pound weight. But there are a few things I need to can at 10 pounds, so I use the gauge.

Watch YouTube. Search beginner canning. There are some that I’d trust without double-checking. Suttons Daze. Rose Red Homestead. Whipporwhill Holler. I know you can read the book, but seeing it helps sooo much.

It’s also worth noting that just like on Amazon marketplace, sometimes prices are higher because of bots that gather and set prices-. They’ll gather a lot of prices for a particular item and set their price incrementally higher than the average. But! They can wind up “bidding” against each other, so to speak, and the prices they are setting keep going higher. Anytime you see an item listed on a third party marketplace for an insane seeming amount t for something this is probably why. (There is a used book on Amazon that I want that is currently listed around $500 USD. It’s not particularly rare or valuable, just out of print.)
Sone of them are induction-capable, some are not. Look into it
Without more detail I would guess one is aluminum and one is stainless steel.
As far as I can tell these are the exact same canner. Except for the photoshopped canned goods the picture of the canner is exactly the same. I think the person who commented about other vendors us correct and the price difference is due to different vendors.
You don’t have the item number on the more expensive one, so it might be using the same picture, but be a different canner. Also, now some canners are designed to work on convection (is that what the glass tops are called?) stove tops and their materials might be more expensive.
