Bruschetta

Arguably one of the simplest, tastiest side dishes or appetizers you will ever eat. It elevates any Italian meal to the next level with just a few simple ingredients. Variations of bruschetta actually date back all the way to Ancient Rome and there’s something to say about a dish that has stood the test of time.

Ingredients

-Ciabatta Bread (French loaf or sourdough will also work)
-Tomatoes
-Lemon
-Fresh Basil
-Olive Oil
-Garlic

Directions

1. Start by slicing your bread into 1 inch thick slices.
2. Dice your tomatoes, peel your garlic, and chop up fresh basil.
3. Heat your oil. We want to make sure the oil is hot enough to immediately start cooking the bread, otherwise the bread will just absorb oil and turn into an over-saturated mess.
4. Once the oil is hot enough, add your bread, cooking for about 1-2 min. Be careful not to burn your bread. Keep an eye on it as it will cook very quickly.
5. Add lemon juice, salt and pepper to tomatoes (some people like to add oil but I don’t find it necessary as we are cooking the entire bread in oil, however, if you choose to bake your bread instead of fry – this may be a good option.)
6. Scrape your peeled garlic onto the bread, add your tomatoes, and top it off with fresh basil.
7. Enjoy!
