  1. ###Ingredients

    * 16 oz firm tofu, cubed
    * 1 tbsp salt
    * 1 tbsp sugar
    * 2-3 tbsp cornstarch
    * 1/4 cup green bell pepper, diced
    * 1 red Fresno chili pepper, diced
    * 1 scallion, chopped
    * 4 garlic cloves, minced
    * 1 cup vegetable oil

    **Five-Spice Seasoning mix**

    * 2 tsp five spice powder
    * 2 tsp garlic salt
    * 1 tsp ground black pepper
    * 1 tsp paprika
    * 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

    ###Instructions

    1. Cut the tofu into 2 inch cubes. Soak the tofu in a bowl of water with 1 tbsp each of salt and sugar for 1 hour. Drain the tofu and pat dry with a paper towel. Coat the tofu with the cornstarch and half of the seasoning mix.
    1. In a wok or large pan, heat up 1 cup of vegetable oil. Once the oil is heated throughout, carefully transfer the tofu into the oil. The tofu might need to be cooked in two batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry the tofu for about 2-3 minutes. Flip the tofu and fry for another 2-3 minutes. Transfer the tofu to a baking rack to cool down.
    1. Transfer the oil from the wok to a heat safe container. With about 1 tbsp of oil remaining, add the garlic, scallions, green bell pepper, and chili pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes and add the fried tofu. Season with the remaining seasoning mix to taste. Mix everything well and cook for another minute. Transfer to a plate and enjoy!
