Wild canned okra. No idea how old, lid was visible but most of the can was buried under brush. Still good? Kidding, but what is the longest something can stay canned and still be good? I have some old cans from 2018 but they were in a house fire. Still sealed, mind you

2 years is my personal limit, but generally, if it’s hanging around that long it’s not something we particularly like, so we may as well liberate the jars.

18 months stored in optimal conditions. Outside of that, there are NO guarantees.
edit: 18 months is the standard shelf life of the lids, which will determine shelf life. Optimal conditions include preparation steps. Were the instructions followed correctly, were the ingredients added correctly, was it allowed to cool correctly and finally was it stored correctly. Unsubstantiated changes to any of these steps can alter expected shelf life.

  4. That looks like canned turds hahah.

Things can really last a long time so long as the deal doesn’t break. The fibers in everything will break down eventually though, making things not great after a while.

  5. I don’t understand folks who can okra anyway. It freezes well and is more versatile for cooking.
