Fair enough

To be fair, it’s not handled til he hits send. We’ve all typed something into that box that we’ve wanted to say only to delete it afterwards.

So boss was mad at the line cook for being upset that someone else didn’t come to work?
Bare bones staffing makes people hate work. They have nothing to spare, and no reason to step up when those bones are broken.

Send it then repost so we can see the commitment

Don’t know what he’s dealing with, but I kinda have to agree with the boss without more context.

Honestly. That’s the type of behavior that pushed me out of the industry. Bosses don’t care about your health or well being but will bitch about people constantly quitting on them. This kinda shit needs to Stop.

Perfectly reasonable for the coworker to say this imo. They’ve not said they aren’t going to work, just that they probably will (not even definitely will) have to finish early. That’s fair enough.
I’ve had to stop service 30mins early before, something I never did, because it was one of the busiest shifts we had that year and I was the only one in the kitchen, we were two people down. It wasn’t a question of me not putting the effort in, I made the decision that it wouldn’t have been safe for me to continue in the condition I was in and I would’ve made loads of mistakes anyway. Thankfully I had a decent manager who totally understood.
This guy has said “no” with no consideration or thought of a perfectly reasonable request, and no offer of a compromise. And if there’s already staffing issues which may be the case here then this would def be a last straw scenario for me. Not worth working yourself to death for someone who couldn’t care less about your well-being.

i quit my food service job for some shit like this. we got a new manager who was trying to revoke my absence the prev manager had granted. good on your coworker, and i hope they leave the industry.

Manager should step up. Life doesn’t cut breaks right? Their job is to fill those breaks. Do the job.

Hit send pussy. Then repost.

Restaurants need to either pay more when employees are overworked, or have an actual backup plan to make sure they aren’t overworked.
I hope people keep quitting the industry until standards improve.

You want me to cover two people’s jobs? Sounds like a you problem chef, heard.

OP: Update and context. This linecook had already previously put in his two week notice due to moving out of state to take care of sick family and was days away from leaving anyway. Yes, he hit send and actually quit. Yes, he is leaving the industry. This isn’t our chef he is texting, it’s the owner. Our kitchen hasn’t had any form of chef in almost 6 months.

Why is using the word “heard” localized in kitchens? I know that’s where it comes from and everything, but I switched over to Starbucks and people were confused by my saying “heard” and I’ve never heard anyone use that word who hasn’t worked in a kitchen. It seems like it would have broken out of just kitchens by now, but it hasn’t.

You’re right. Life doesn’t cut us breaks, so I’ll have to cut myself some breaks. I quit.
The most important part is to hit send after typing it.

Treat your employees well and they’ll treat you well.

Boss doesn’t have mental capacity because he’s running the joint wrong, so it’s his own fault.
Workers don’t have the mental capacity because the boss is running the joint wrong, also the bosses own fault.
All I’m seeing here is the boss fucking up

“Life doesn’t cut breaks.” Nah dude, *you* don’t cut breaks.
I love when shitty people lament that the world sucks as if it’s an inherent, immutable fact and not the result of people like them choosing to make it that way. It’s you, hi, you’re the problem.
