Gifted this mirro matic. I’ve never pressure canned before, any simple recipes I can start with? I’m guessing the round chunk of metal is the pressure Guage? I’m not going to lie. A little scared looking at it

I have posted 3 images with a new to me mirro-matic that I’m scared to start using! The last picture has a picture of the seal and a Guage of some type.

Have your county extension office check the gauge.

Get your gauge tested. Your local department of agriculture would have a department that deals with safe canning. Often times they give training seminars and have excellent handouts.

New gasket, at the very least. I would also shine a flashlight through the stem where the weight goes (round chunk thing) to insure it is unobstructed.

PS contact Mirro and see whether that screw is a place holder for an overpressure button (little rubber thing) or a placeholder for an optional gauge.

It’s missing some very important parts I think.

Very nice. You may want to Google the owners manual for this. It will give you a lot of information for this canner. The model number will be stamped somewhere on the pot.
