Hi- I searched threads before posting but this isn’t exactly part of the canning playbook.
I put my hot soup (straight from crockpot to countertop) in ball jars and rested the canning lid and ring around the tops to run a carpool, and this morning I realized I left it out all night. The jars self sealed.
I feel comfortable feeding a jar to my family within the 24 hour window, but are the other 3 a total loss or can I throw them in the fridge for the next week, considering the heat sealed the ring?
Again- not gifting or selling….trying to meal prep myself
Just making sure I am not missing a foodborne pathogen risk.

Despite the seal created by the lid, without thermal processing following an approved recipe, you should treat these as you would and other leftovers accidentally left on the counter overnight.
The vacuum created by cooling air does not itself provide protection from harmful bacteria.
No, this is not safe to eat at all, but I applaud you for inquiring before you allowed your family to eat any of it. As someone who has experienced foodborne illness, I don’t wish it on anyone!
Bad bacteria can double in the danger zone temps (between 41°F & 140°F) within 20 minutes. (Someone correct me if I’m wrong) So I’d consider these very unsafe to eat since they were not actually canned
I know it sucks to trash all that soup but it’s really not worth the risk of making you or your family sick
