My best friend is getting married in august and really wants a vintage coquette heart shaped cake in the color green. I’ve never made a cake before only cupcakes but I decided to try and see what I could do! Of course I’d add more colors and decorations (I ran out of icing lol) but I want technique help! The cake baking I can do, the spreading icing on, good icing recipes for cakes, best ways to add small detail anything helps! If anyone is interested I’ll post updates with the skills I learn 🙂

Maybe try using two shades of green, one as an accent? A smoother frosting would help your piping be more defined as well. Other than that, it looks great, keep up the good work!

The green is throwing me off.
    Otherwise, a good looking cake.

I would use a much lighter pastel green. That looks like guacamole.

Definitely two shades and different tips.

try swirling instead of dotting on the floral details

smaller tips for this size cake for sure. watch some youtube videos on how to pipe shell borders, then add some contrasting/complementing coloured shell borders in a smaller sizer. this shade of green is also a bit strange, maybe try a bit more pastel?

i’d also recommend making your final cake taller that way you can add swoops (not sure of the term) on the sides. maybe finish with some pearls where the swoops join?

also i would look into a diff type of frosting. is this abc? i’d go for something nice and silky like smbc. try warming and paddling your buttercream for a nicer smoother texture.

id go without the rosettes on top as well

  7. Learn to pipe shells instead of those stars, it’ll look so much more professional. YouTube has a million videos.

I’m so sorry. All I can see is Wasabi frosting

I honestly am kinda digging this cake- I’m not sure why, but I think it’s really cute!

I also couldn’t help imagining putting a tiny toy lawnmower on the flat parts, and teeny tiny candy flowers on the edges. You could serve it at a cute, garden-themed party or something!

Watching YouTube, the style you’re going for along with practice, you’ll do great.

Can you do white with green decor? And dies she have a specific shade, maybe sage? I’d also invest in a couple of smaller star tips and a larger round tip like a #6 and just practice piping designs on parchment then scrape it back in the bag and practice again. It doesn’t really have a pattern, if you know what I mean. Almost looks like a Grinch smiley face. My favorite star size is the #21. Great for a first attempt on a cake vs cupcakes though.

Lighter shade of green, you need to like swirl it instead of just dotting it if that makes sense, look up some YouTube videos of how to pipe different borders like shells and ruffles – and use a slightly contrasting colour – maybe cake is iced in white and the ruffles in green or vice versa. What sort of frosting are you using? I like making an ‘easy buttercream’ (because I usually fail at Swiss meringue, so instead of hearing the egg whites with sugar you mix powdered sugar and pasteurised egg whites together then add the butter) and it comes out very smooth and holds up well. The frosting matters when doing a lot of piping.
