It’s food o00 on Real L craft beer today I’ve been to Aldi and I’ve picked up some Korean barbecue rice now I wouldn’t normally pick something like this up but it peaked my interest I reviewed the nager nager rice from Aldi and quite frankly it blew my mind not with just

Spice but with the amount of flavor and how easy it it is to cook these rice pouches so all you do if you’ve got a microwave I’m pretty sure most people have microwaves these days and if you haven’t you can put it on a hob for 2 or

3 minutes pour it in the boiling water give it a stir strain it stick it on your bowl I’m going to microwave it though this cost me a pound it’s an East Asian style I’ve never been to Korea I’ve never been to a Korean barbecue so I’ve got no idea

How this is going to turn out but there’s the rice you give it a little bit of a squeeze just to break it up a bit very gently and it goes in the microwave for 2 minutes so I’m going to be back when this is cooked and just like

That poty ping I think that’s the Welsh name for microwave poty ping um just like that it’s worked it’s it’s hot it’s steaming and I’m hungry got my Fork I think it only meant to rip a little bit of the oh my goodness me that’s hot

Y there we go all done um you’re only meant to rip a little bit of the top I think I think I’ve kind of done done a bit too much but never mind uh it’s done now we can’t go back can we here’s a look at the rice is a little bit

Of a stuck bit but that soon SS it out with a fork there’s a look at it steaming away yeah so I quite like and I I only discovered microwavable rice back in the summer uh we went to to stay in a little kind of cottage in m

Albra over the summer holidays only for a week and we thought we don’t want to take a bag of rice or buy a bag of rice I mean a bag of rice will last this family three weeks cuz I’m probably the only one who likes rice in the family um

So I didn’t want to buy a bag of rice a kilo bag I thought let’s try some of this microwavable rice and it turned out it’s so easy it’s probably as expensive as buying a normal bag of rice always if you can buy a normal bag of

Dried rice but in terms of ease of use and how good the rice is microwavable rice is pretty decent this cost me about a pound there’s a look at the food it looks it’s always kind of puffy isn’t it microwaveable rice is a puffy full grown rice green um and it looks

Like it’s got some tomato maybe some salsa maybe some spices let’s have a taste Korean barbecue oh I mean it’s okay it’s never going to set the world Al light it’s never going to be the next big thing I think this Aldi Korean barbecue rice um I think they just come

Up with a name here I think what happens in marketing departments is every marketing department has probably got a globe and they spin the globe around and it’s almost like jackpot it’s spinning around and then it slows down and somebody just goes and they put their finger on the

Globe and then they go right okay we’ve landed on Korea what can we call this rice and someone’s gone oh barbecue Hot Country Barbecue um the likelihood of most most people in the UK ever to visit Korea is probably very minimal so let’s just make a some cods

Wall about about barbecue rice from Korea you know and I think that’s how these things work um at best at best this is a slightly spicy tomato based microwavable rice that’s hot not spicy up steamy hot um it’s okay I think um I think if they

Called this Italian rice I think I would would be on board with it everything from Italy is based on tomatoes isn’t it I mean tomato base in Italy is is is everything isn’t it and and I love it I love Italian food I love all those tomato based things lasagnas bologneses

Pizzas it’s great fantastic nois wonderful but to call this a a a Korean barbecue rice now what I’m going to say is the Naga Naga rice if you can get the Naga Naga rice that was fantastic that blew my mind that was Fant it was hot it was

Amazing so I’ve gone back and picked this up thinking that this might be just as good um it’s just a bit boring there’s a little bit of spice in there there’s a little what stuff going on but also it limits what what you can eat it with you could eat you couldn’t eat

This with Chinese food cuz it’s tomato based it just wouldn’t work you you could probably eat this with Indian food if you bought some like samosas in a supermarket and then you bought this rice then yeah maybe that would definitely work but you couldn’t go any anywh near the Chinese

End of the market and and buy some chain and and then put this in the microwave it just wouldn’t work together a sweet and spicy rice flavored with golang chili pepper sauce garlic and ginger it’s okay it’s okay as I mentioned earlier it’s not going to set the world Al

  1. Going on my honey moon today to South Carolina! Thank God, I got to watch one Real Ale video before I set off. Cheers Simon!

  2. Seriously? It's just a packet of rice 🤣 You normally have it with something too.

  3. I really enjoy the Naga Naga Rice with a Jalfrezi 😅😅😅😅 Really clears the sinuses and warms you up in this weather

  4. You must try the ghost chilli chicken strips from iceland this year they are the hottest they have ever been the More you have the spicier they get they are very, spicy . Would love to see you review them in one of your videos 👍

  5. Some people really will put anything up on YouTube and call it a review won't they 🤣🤣🤣

You bought a pack of rice, mental

  6. No they didn't just make up "Korean Barbecue" randomly although what differentiates it from any other country's barbecue I don't know

  7. ALDI is such an enigma , some of there stuff is poor , some OK but occasionally they are stunning . Take their fresh specially selected sour dough pizzas . Grace Dent found it best out of 24 supermarket and chain pizzas . Don’t get their Carlos frozen though it has to be fresh .

  8. Korean BBQ is actually a proper authentic flava, aromatic sweet but with a good old kick of chilli spice ! 👍

  9. Classic you reviewing this but can see you dont have experience you have with mircowave rice. First off break the rice apart before opening to make it much easier and mess free. Also dont tear the whole pouch open just tear a little air hole on the side.

  10. If you dont have a microwave, you certainly wouldn't put this in water on hob, you just fry it in a little oil

  11. As a Brit who has lived in Korea for 10+ years, that is a sad representation of Korean BBQ rice 😂 .You should definitely try a real Korean BBQ someday (bloody amazing) but I think you won’t find any legit ones in Wales. New Malden in London (Korea Town) might be your best bet. You could also try some Korean beers (Kelly, Cass, Terra) though the lagers are not going to blow your mind. There is a good craft beer scene here though
