If it was delicious that is what’s important

This is pretty medium well, and about 30 seconds from well done. Maybe get someone to help you or learn to tell doneness by touch

  3. Nice crust but very uneven cook. parts look more medium well

  4. You’re gonna need to invest in a meat thermometer if you can’t see the colors of your meat lol

Even if you can see color you should be using an instant read digital thermometer, if you’re color blind even more so.

This steak gets to medium well in the center but is well done for most of it

  6. I would say it is medium well, just as others have stated.

Med Rare, Medium, Medium Well, well, who cares as long as you enjoyed

  7. DrasticBread

Crust looks very nice, it’s only off mid rare by about 1-2 minutes less cooking. Thumbs up

Medium well but if it slap then go off king

Looks perfectly edible and enjoyable to me.

I wouldn’t really worry about colorblindness in meat cookery, as color isn’t a great metric anyway because by definition you have to cut it open to check doneness…a thermapen is a relatively small investment that will save you from wasting good materials by over/undercooking them

Looks more like a medium medium well but I’d smash as long as there some pink or red in there it’ll still be good food to me!

If you’re colorblind go by temp with a meat probe. 135F is perfect everytime

If it was delicious, that’s good. No judgement. But no, that’s not medium rare. That’s medium well

It’s the gray I just don’t understand, isn’t that concerning? Also, I think you meant color vision deficiency.

  13. Fun_Intention9846

Good sear, that’s a chunky gray/well done band around the center.

I think a thermometer would be a big help here. If you took it off earlier and let it rest to temp the cook would be more even.

  14. Medium to medium well. If you can’t tell by touch, get a thermometer. Luckily, being color blind will have zero impact on cooking a steak properly. Just need to hone in on your timing/touch. But otherwise looks delicious!

You’re over and closer to mid-rare.

I would suggest getting a meat thermometer and letting that help you to figure out your technique and temps.

But hey, it still looks tremendous and blows out of the water some of the shit I’ve made in the past. Keep it up!

    This is perfect! (It’s overcooked)

I like MEDIUM well. That’s more like medium WELL. But I’d be down haha

  18. lusco-fusco-wdyd

Definitely doesn’t look medium rare, but looks very good, I’d eat it.

  19. Freedom_fam

It would look great on a black and white TV.

I guess I’d never know but I wonder how you see it as colourblind.

I ran into the same issue yesterday even with using a probe/thermometer. It read 124 when I pulled it, but it was medium well, mostly well with a rare spot in the middle.

Pretty sure I needed to let the steaks sit out and hit room temp before I threw them in my hot cast iron pan.

They were only sitting out for about 15 or 20 minutes before I threw them in the pan.

If you’re colorblind, you MUST start using a probe thermometer. It’s more accurate anyways.

  23. stephen250

Medium well, though well done is where it’s at.

  24. grumpvet87

looks like med to me but if it was perfect for you then … enjoy. why not buy a digital thermometer and have consistent results – also learn the finger poke method to feel for doneness

  25. Looks amazingly juicy. That steak is just north of medium but if you enjoyed it, that’s awesome.

  26. MetricJester

As a fellow colourblind person, you need to hear this from me: the colour of the steak will never ever matter when talking about doneness. Get yourself a good thermometer (Thermoworks Thermopop is a good one), and stop worrying about the colour. If anyone ever complains about the colour of their steak you get to take it from them and eat it for them.

Looks medium well to me, but the sear looks fantastic, and that’s where a lot of the flavour lives.
