I canned ground venison in this jar last night for dog food. It must have cracked during processing but I didn’t notice until just now when I was washing the jars to put away and I noticed bubbles inside. Is it still safe to feed the contents to the dog or should I just toss it? It sealed fine.

I would suggest discarding it. It’s very likely that air made its way into the jar which puts the contents at risk. Im surprised the seal remained intact with the crack.

Though unlikely, there could also be small shards of glass in the food depending on how and when it cracked.

It’s tough to throw that hard work away, but it’s your best option.

  3. If you noticed bubbles it’s not holding water anymore. That means the meat has been exposed to the air for an unknown amount of time. Unfortunately that means the contents aren’t safe for your dog. Even for commercially bought wet food they don’t recommend leaving it out for more than a few hours.
