Canned for the first time last night since moving to the city. My jars have this odd coating on them and feel weird to the touch. What does this mean about my water? Thanks!

It’s just minerals from hard water. Our well water is very hard and I get that same buildup. When I wash my jars the next day, before storage, I just use a mixture of soap and vinegar to clean it.

Hard water, thems salts disolved in your water, use distilled, get a water softener, or rinse your cans after

Adding in a splash of vinegar to your boiling water will help. It will make your rings rust faster. There is no issue with safety.

If you ever make pickles, use filtered or distilled water for the brine. The added minerals can make your brine cloudy.

Add a couple tablespoons of white vinegar to your water when canning and you won’t get the hard water deposits on jars

Did you add vinegar to your canner? My manual says to add vinegar to prevent hard water deposits on your jars.
