So this piece broke just as I was starting the venting process tonight. I’m letting it all cool down before I try yo fix it but my question is do I need to take the kids off and put new ones on before I attempt to process the jars again?

I’m sorry…I just have visions of children sitting on the canner. Took me a while to realize you were asking about jar *lids*. Lol.

To answer your question (though you’ve probably resolved this by now), you can just process as long as the contents hadn’t cooled down. If the contents had cooled, you’d need to dump them, heat the contents as specified in the recipe, and go from there. If you have to reheat the contents, you can clean and reuse the lids (assuming they hadn’t sealed yet).

The kids? You mean the lids? I would make sure it is fixed and building pressure first. Maybe put those puppies in the fridge or somewhere safe til you figure it out and then reprocess everything from the very beginning. Is this a Presto canner? If so, you can get a new vent cover on Amazon here: [https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/DCAA63BB-5854-4DA5-9AD0-40998884F669/search?ref_=ast_bln&terms=vent%20cover](https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/dcaa63bb-5854-4da5-9ad0-40998884f669/search?ref_=ast_bln&terms=vent%20cover)
