I’m not going to bore you with 15 photos of a piece of fish and rice but holy MACKEREL was I blown the F away by this place.
Early reviews were saying it was shit and I was certainly skeptical. Especially since this is Boston, everything seems to fall a bit flat here. I spoke with the chef (came from Masa) wife. She described him as the artist and her as the art dealer, she hosts the show. She said in the beginning the fish purveyors were giving him crap fish to see what he could handle, so to speak. After returning enough of the mediocre Uni etc, he has gotten his sourcing down and this meal seriously wowed me. Definitely surpassing ALL of my NYC omakase endeavors. Resy is a bit tough, but they book 45 days out and once you dine there it’s easier to return. I also love to judge a spot by their miso soup. This one was white anchovy based with perfect mushrooms and some of the best I ever had. So nice to see he cared about that, and it was served at the end after a sweet tamago course *chefs kiss*.
Only downsides: the music. Holy fuck. Walked in to the elevator version of beauty and the beast…. And it only got worse. There is no liquor license yet and zero indicators of that on reviews or their website, that was also disappointing. I like to lubricate for that long of a meal. Made for an even stuffier environment. Honorable mention to the people next to me loudly talking about their kids and coughing on me for 2.5+ hours, some sake would’ve helped. Run don’t walk if you have a Boston trip coming up!
