So, I've been trying to book a table at Don Angie for the past couple of months, whether the food will live up to the hype. I'll never know given the effort to book a table and I've given up.

Tips:

  • Be logged in
  • Use the Web Browser instead of the app (I have no idea if it's even possible to see tables in the app given the way the page fails to render when bookings open)
  • Use the URL https://resy.com/cities/ny/don-angie?date=2024-03-22&seats=2&time=1700 and change the date to the next day that bookings will open for, and select a time!
  • Start refreshing the page at 08:59:58 (make sure your device is time synced)
  • Notify – I've never seen an open table come through this way
  • Amex card – might help (I have one that's eligible) but I've never seen a priority notify or a table open for Amex members so I wouldn't bother getting one just to get a table.

The Rant:

Usual experience is at 08:59:50 – 09:00:01 the booking page is extremely unstable, with the page failing to load and when it does load all tables are gone. Looked at Github for bots, and tried one with no success either.

However this week noticed there was one table at 5:15PM on two different days, excited as this is the 2nd time I've actually seen a booking slot open, I try my luck and start the reservation process

  • Asked to complete a Captcha (first time I've seen one on the site), waste a couple of seconds doing it twice
  • Asked to confirm payment method – there's only one card on file, so why I'm being asked again idk, more time wasted
  • Asked to login again, after being already being logged in to make the booking 🤷‍♂️ really adding to the seconds wasted
  • Redirected back to reservation widget, and alerted that I am booking an Indoor Table, I don't care just give me a table. Hammer the Reservation Now button a couple of times…
  • Get selected reservation is no longer available…

Honestly, I'll just order from Door Dash…

If you have a premium credit card like Amex platinum, the concierge is good at getting reservations. Albeit, they are typically on the earlier or later side of the evening as opposed to peak time; but based on the maddening efforts you’ve trudged through I’m guessing you’d be ok with a 5.30 dinner!

Resy is getting more and more ridiculous. If it helps, I think Don Angie is nice but nothing I would write home about.

Went there for lunch on the weekend. Got there like 30 min before doors opened and was seated right away at a table

  3. If you see a random opening use the app instead of browser to avoid captcha and card verification.

But like someone else mentioned try for walk in before opening. They have the times posted on their site when the bar and kitchen open. Get there before/when the bar opens. Only downside to walkin is they won’t record it in your resy account which would help for getting future reservations

They come alive same day a lot of the time. I just refresh multiple times a day and can usually get something one about once a week.

They lost their star because they went way downhill. Got comfy resting on their laurels and it bit them in the ass. I went during their prime and it was good but not mind blowing. It’s not worth going through this ridiculous process. Just show up early and maybe you’ll get a table for 2.

They have a new restaurant called San Sabino if you want an alternative. I would not bother with Bad Roman though.

I’ve given up on this place because it’s impossible to get reservations. I know I can wait in person before it opens, but why bother when NYC has a ton of amazing red sauce Italian places?

When will some of you learn to just…walk in?

  9. manicakes1

The food there is mid, why even bother? Reject the hype and go to any other Italian place that’s not an influencer trap.

Maybe try emailing them when you have a special occasion like a big anniversary or something. I emailed them that I was proposing and needed a table on the night of. They were super helpful.

I ate there last month and it was absolutely worth it. Got the reservation through Amex. Gods speed in your journey.

It just blows my mind the lengths people go to to eat there…

So i went there. They are fighting the bots on resy by leaving reservations available by phone or even walk in.

    The foods fantastic.

Same but for Tatiana. I have received a lot of notifications lately that tables are available (I put down a “notify” almost nightly.) But even if I log in immediately the tables are gone. I do think this means they’re trying to address the bot problem. But I think the bots are getting the newly freed up tables. LOL?

Why throw a fit about not getting a resy at some mid ass place like Don Angie’s when you have readily available reservations at arguably a much better restaurant like L’Artusi.

To give you hope I got a walk-in table for 4, arriving an hour after opening (~6 PM) for 7:30 PM. So Resy and arriving before opening time is not always necessary.

Granted it was an early January Monday night. It paired pretty well with the 2nd set of The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.

I had the same issue getting anything on Resy so I emailed them with several dates and times and they were very helpful in setting up a reservation on my behalf so I didn’t have to go the fruitless Resy route

  18. Healthy-Ordinary-592

Not even remotely worth losing your mind trying to get a reservation.

  19. Monsieur_Toast

Put a notification on the Resy App. I’ve done it for Monday and landed reservations on a Monday, after 9pm though so. Food is good but not great. The lasagna was amazing the first time and second time I had it but the most recent it was just ok.

Literally just wait in line 30 minutes before they open for dinner and put your name down. They expect people to do that and even give you tea while waiting.

But like others are saying, Don Angie isn’t worth the hype. I had a bad experience, left a bad review, and got a huge refund and an apology from the manager though so the customer service is on point.

I heard from one of their employees that they actually don’t put all of the availabilities online– so what might be worth trying is that you walk in to the restaurant when they open (when the reservation slot opens for the night you want to go), and ask directly to the employee there to see if they have tables for that day! I’ve never tried it myself but hope it works !!

Rest is garbage and has ruined dining in New York.

  23. Comfortable-Power-71

I’ve walked in 3-4 times and gotten a bar seat or an outside table. Roll the dice. You can hang out at John’s bar across the street.

  24. Southern-Courage-800

I’ve been 3 times all on a Sunday afternoon! If you keep rechecking Friday/Saturday it’s like the only time have available times. Haven’t been able to book a reservation outside Sunday afternoon though

  25. We walked in at 430pm on a Friday a few weeks ago and were seated right away.

  26. TalentedButLaz

It’s good but not worth how hard it is to get a Rez there

  27. I_looooove_kulfi

I only had it once and found it super overpriced for the quality of food. I didn’t have the pinwheel lasagna but for like $60 some dollars, idk if it’s worth it. Someone I used to know worked at Resy and got us a reservation that way 😵‍💫

  28. midtowngirlnyc

If you go in person when they open, they can reserve 6 or 7 (the same online day it’s released) days out. The host is actually so kind

  29. BrooklynGenX

I’ve hosted 2 dinners in the private room – $5K minimum. It’s beautiful in the bar area. Tight fit in the room with the table. Good service, but food was meh. Very surprised after all the hype.
