(Pics of the food is in the same order as the menu in pic 1, only thing missing is the final dessert)
Hi everyone!
I posted here a while back asking for everyones opinion for choosing between Oriole, Ever, and Smyth. As promised I’m back with photos and a quick summary of my visit in mid March!
The meal starts off in the entrance/lobby(?) area where I was welcomed with a cup of refreshing osmanthus tea. Shortly after, the doors opened and a waiter guided to the bar counter where I was welcomed with another drink and the amuse bouche. The bar experience was quickly followed by a chefs counter experience and what I thought was the best bite of the night, foie gras and strawberries toast. The rest of the dinner was then conducted in the main dining room with no hiccups in service at all.
Overall, I thought Oriole was an extremely aolid meal that ranks on the higher end of ** places I’ve previously been (Atomix, Aska, and RAW are ones I’d personally put above it). The foie gras and strawberries on toast was definitely the highlight of the entire meal. Most dishes were very well executed and balanced, however I felt dessert was the one part of the meal that was on the weaker side. Not bad, but just not on the same level as the others.
Hoping to come back to Chicago soon to give Ever and Smyth a try!

That foie course is my favorite preparation of foie.
I’d also put Aska above Oriole, but it was pretty close for us. We also did Ever when we were in Chicago, and I regretted not going to Smyth instead. Ever felt like it was trying too hard while simultaneously hating itself.
Ive been to oriole a lot over the past few years. The fois gras dish is the one singular constant on the menu, and still my favorite dish. fwiw, the jam changes intermittently depending on the season, and availability.
