Oooooo man. This picture brings it back to the college days. Mixed chicken and lamb over rice with the white sauce… at any time of the day, it’s busy. The food is GREAT and drove into the city numerous times just for this. It could be winter, summer, hot or cold, those guys will be there and the food hits you. Thanks for posting this picture.

The halal guys was the OG halal, before there were carts on ever block they were the only guys. Over the years they’ve gotten bigger and more commercialized and the food shows it, but still it’s the game behind it that keeps it super popular.

Pro tip: the dudes on w. 52nd share the same meat and ingredients as the halal guys- same exact food for zero wait time

Because it’s very very good and near the spiritual home of NYC halal and people can say they tried “the best” even though it’s probably now that. This is not Halal Guys (53rd and 6th), which is now very mid.

It is not worth the wait, feel free to check out the work of u/thehalalguysguy for other recommendations.

I work on 49th. Even before the Covid nonsense that place was amazing. Used to get double meat no rice and salad. White and hot sauce. 8 bucks.

Double meat for 8 bucks !!! Wtf. I live in Brooklyn are they still open at midnight?

Because there is nothing better in midtown.

It’s just a generic cart at this point. Was different a decade or so ago. But there are so many better options at this point.

That being said, let the tourists keep this place alive so that the ones in our actually neighborhoods remain awesome.

RIP the good ole days of Halal guys! One cart across from the Hilton on 6th Ave and they had lamb platters for $6 all the sauce you wanted and $1 drink

Theres a cart called shwarma king that’s better and never has a line when I go

It’s delicious. If you don’t want to wait in line (since the line can be huge) just go to the person that’s in front and offer to pay for their meal if you can order with them. 10/10 times they will of course be down since it’s a free meal. Sure it’s more money but you saving time

  10. Social media clout says it’s good, so it gets long lines, so more people say it’s good, so it gets longer lines.

It’s fine. Nothing to write home about one way or the other.

People who are tired of waiting in Adel’s long lines, this is what I did:

My friends and I were in nyc a few weeks ago(we don’t live in ny), and we had seen an Instagram reel about adel’s and decided to give it a try. We were travelling by car, so I searched for it on google maps to get the route. So google maps shows this Grubhub option which redirects you to the app(I tried search for adel’s through the app and I didn’t see anything, not sure why). I ordered on Grubhub for a pickup and it was ready in half hour before we reached there. The second cart, that is alongside the one where people form the lines, services the orders. Got there, picked up our orders and left, no standing in long lines whatsoever.

Not sure if people know about this or not but I find it difficult to believe people would be willing to wait in lines if they knew they can just order a pickup and get there when their orders are ready.

I went recently and thought it was alright, tasted like it looked

Overrated—I waited over an hour on a Monday night at 1 am and it was very average

  14. Flat-Lengthiness7566

Nobody goes there anymore, the lines are way too long…

  15. cabeswatir

since everyone keeps saying it’s overhyped, can someone rec some good halal? (in manhattan preferably)

  16. Because someone posted on TikTok or Instagram that this was the stand. Meanwhile, carts down the block are just as good with no lines. Don’t buy into the hype.

  17. randomburnerish

New Yorkers as a species are attracted to food lines

  18. Neither_Leading1247

Self fulfilling prophecy too – busy spots have lots of turnover and fresh food and stay good.

  19. TakeControlOfLife

I waited 3 hours in line last saturday.

The food was great but man i’m never getting back in that line ever again.

  20. Good location and nothing more. It tastes just like any other halal cart I’ve had in manhattan

  21. Tagliarini295

It’s so mid, it’s crazy people actually wait for it.

  22. It’s the only place that I know of that serves spicy rice and it’s absolutely amazing. Love Adel’s

  23. SuccotashOwn1716

Ah, I used to get Adel’s all the time when I was working late at night in that big building in the background. It was cheap and quick and the guys knew me and my order when I walked up. It’s still pretty good but now the word has gotten out.

  24. ThePhantomOfBroadway

Man, this line causes so many issues with me since I’m blind and use a cane! I mean no problem with the vendors, they are just fine and seems to be doing what ever they can to stay organize. Just the fact the line stretches to the end of the block where I’m crossing on to and can’t find my bumps. Then the crowd sometimes takes up the entire side walk. One of the few times I accept help from tourists to get through the crowd lol

Again, not blaming the vendors, but feel like at this point, maybe this cart needs a set restaurant or something lol, then again goes against the original cart so I get it.

  25. rottenfigs

So I’ve recently tried this cart – it’s good, but I know an even better one. 86th st & 5th ave in Brooklyn. Tastes better and even with the line it yields, you don’t have to wait an hour +

  26. Have hard it’s pretty good but have never heard someone I trust say it’s worth the wait
