Just got back from a week in Barcelona and Madrid and wanted to thank everyone in this community for all the advice and opinions! In Barcelona we dined at Mont Bar () & Enigma (), and in Madrid we went to OSA (*). Mont Bar and OSA were clear favorites with Enigma really falling short of expectations.
Mont Bar (*) – We ate through the majority of the menu a la carte and enjoyed everything. Great upscale but casual vibe, pleasant service, and the overall highlight dish of the trip Tuna Belly with Pine Nut Emulsion (Pic 1).
OSA (*) – OSA is new to the Michelin list this year and Madrid and could not be more deserving. Slightly outside downtown, the restaurant is beautiful in a somewhat Nordic meets Spanish style with a sleek open kitchen and clean wood designs. The restaurant was only offering their standard 24 course tasting and it was almost all hits. Some highlights included the unique charcuterie style opener, Foie Gras with lemon butter, and the final savory course of venison. Less dessert courses than I typically enjoy, but they do offer a supplemental cheese course as well. We skipped as it truly is a huge amount of food.
Enigma (*) – Enigma, which has been well recommended in this sub, was probably what I was most excited about after missing out on Disfrutar. The restaurant is certainly stunning and dramatic, but is showing some signs of age and may need a refresh soon. Service was formal, but uncomfortable. Our table was handled by a team of younger waitstaff that struggled to audibly and accurately explain dishes and just generally left us feeling meh. Certainly not above and beyond, and overall a negative. Finally the food – we typically are fans of gastronomy style tastings, but didn’t find many of the techniques highlighted to be particularly impressive and the taste just wasn’t great for most dishes. The whole experience felt extremely “form over function” using played out dishes and young staff to ride the reputational coattails of the famous Adria name.
Big thanks to this great group of diners!
