Hello everyone!

I’m new to this community, having joined a few months ago to get intel on my trip to France; everyone’s posts were so helpful I want to report back on some restaurants I didn’t find as much information on!

Paris

Epicure*** (photo 1-3)

Lovely in every way! Service was like clockwork, quietly exact while still being comfortable and attentive. The sommelier was particularly impressive and gave us derailed info on some vintage options for the wine we wanted. Food was excellent- our favourite was the royal langoustine. Would return.

Sushi B* (photo 4-5)

We did the lunch sushi-only service. It was decent but I found the fish was all similar texture and was craving something different by the end. It was extremely fresh and very flavourful. Service was wonderful. Good meal but wouldn’t go out of my way to return.

Champagne

L’assiette Champenoise*** (photo 6-8)

Only a hair behind Epicure in terms of service; our wine glasses often got low before being poured more. The caviar dish and asparagus dish were highlights of our trip, but the lobster was bitter and underwhelming. Would likely return.

Alsace

Julien Binz* (photo 9-10)

This dinner was the most fun of our trip. The flavours were bold and interesting, but lacked a central theme/ weren’t tied together. Individually though, some of our favourite dishes of the trip. Radish ice cream with kelp broth may be the weirdest/ best amuse of the trip. The trout had the best texture I’ve ever eaten. Wine list was very local and reasonably priced. Definitely would return.

Table by Olivier Nasti** (photo 11-13)

Overall my favourite meal. The vibe is upscale, modern fishing lodge and food was clean, elegant and local. The amuse was 5 bites representing different parts of Alsace and the theme was consistent throughout. Caviar with local fresh peas, arctic char cooked tableside in beeswax, lobster with rhubarb, lamb with black garlic. Sommelier had great knowledge and was very charming. Service was slightly more awkward than the *** we went to- I was always aware of how many servers were hovering around the dining room. Overall, would definitely return.

Lyon

The only meal that was underwhelming. Did not change cutlery, wine list was one-note (natural wines) and sommelier couldn’t find anything to recommend when we told her our preferred flavour profile. Food was decent but only one standout dish (trout with carrot and citrus saffron broth). Overall, service was a big detractor. Would not return.
