Ingredients:
smoked sausages
bell peppers, colors of your choice, chopped or sliced
onion, chopped or sliced
oil for frying
salt
pepper
top split hot dog buns
condiments such as mustard, spicy mustard, mayonnaise
Directions:
Heat oil in skillet. Cut sausages in lengths to fit your hot dog buns. Brown on all sides, cooking through. When sausages are almost ready, add peppers and onions to skillet, salt and pepper to taste. Cook until tender and have a charred look. While peppers are cooking, heat hot dog buns. Add condiment of your choice inside bun. Lay sausage in bun, spreading peppers and onions on top or on side of sausage in the bun. Serve and enjoy!
hey everybody it’s Karen with food and family tonight I’m making us a very simple yet delicious dinner have you ever been to the state fair and had one of their sausage dogs and it’s piled full of peppers and onions that’s I’m cooking tonight Popp and I love them and we haven’t had one in ages as a matter of fact we haven’t been to the State Fair in ages but I’m going to make some sausage dogs I’m going to drizzle a little bit of oil I don’t need much in my pan I’ve got it getting hot and I have bought some smoked sausage they’re skinless and I’ve showed you this before the um skinless eage sausage so I’m going to cut these These are too big for my hot dog buns I’m not making Foot Longs today but wouldn’t that be good I’ve just got some regular hot dog buns in there top split so we’re going to be heating those up so I going to cut the sausages in half or as close to half as I can get them you hear that I might need to turn that down cuz I want these to cook through and let’s put this one in there y’ it’s going to be so good I can’t wait to get this now I’m going to move this board I don’t need that anymore so and we’re just going to end these for a minute and you you see how that’s already getting Brown well that’s getting a little brown too quick because we want it to cook all the way through that’s why I wanted does turn the heat down so I’m going to get these cooked through and then I’m going to come back and I’m going to show you what else are going to do okay all right our sausages they’re not quite done but they’re getting there I put a lid over them and put just a splash of water in it to try to sting them through cuz I want them getting done inside so and good and hot so what I’m going to do is they’re really close so I’m just going to add a little bit more oil and I’m going to scoot these over to the side can you’all see how pretty that’s looking there see they’re Plumping up so I’m going to scoot those over to the side and we’re going to put some peppers and onions in this oil now I’ve got some I took out of the freezer you remember I told you that and we did some last year uh I cut them up put them in freezer bags that’s what I’m using uh these are not from the last year’s ones these are ones I did recently that I was telling you about let smell so good y’all I might throw a little bit of garlic in there that would only make it better one it I don’t know I might have to um cook them too long for the garlic with these being frozen but we’ve got green and red peppers and we’re just going to grab a handful and we don’t care what color we get and I want to get some more peppers and onions put in my freezer cuz this is something I use quite a bit of especially the onions now if you don’t have them Frozen in your freezer you can slice one up who is coming in hi pop we are making your dinner you feel you smell like you’re at the fire smells good yeah smells like uh panny parle yeah fenny farles in Gatlinburg I was telling them about the fair I forgot about the fenny farles yeah they smell good that was a Hallmark kiss does this smell good it does let think I need a few more onions don’t I that looks good also mhm yeah I forgot about Fanny parle up in Gatlinburg and if any of you are familiar with Gatlinburg and I’m sure a lot of you are y’all know what we’re talking about walking down the street you can smell it yes sir game roomid huh it’s a game room for the kids that they cook right there on thee so we’re having a very simple quick dinner tonight but it’s something that way light but what I was saying if you don’t have any chopped up aheading in the freezer you can slice your onions if you want to you can slice the peppers if you want to I just chopped them up and it doesn’t matter it’s all going to be the same in the end right so man this smells good can y’all see in this pan I think you can you see how pretty those pepper sauce yeah I hated pop going back to work today he’s been off uh had a long weekend off we um Saturday I told y’all we were going to the farmers and trade market and then we took Sunday and rested for a little bit and um yesterday we went to North Alabama to our oldest grandson’s graduation he graduated from University of Alabama and Huntsville with a degree in aerospace engineering so we’re very very proud of him and uh so he had to go back to work today after being off for three days and I sure missed him not being with me today so let me get these going these sausages I’ll soon be taking up the peppers won’t be long I’m going to use my spalat splatter screen splatter screen uhuh I like that show you what I’m going to do how we heat our binds mhm and just lay them aren’t you just smart top and it softens them if you’ve got any buns that are like a day old and but you know they’re still good to use this will soften them up these are not old but that softens them up so we’re going to soften them up now we like mayonnaise and mustard on hour that it gives the bun flavor also well it does then it gets from that uhhuh yeah and I’ve got a surprise for you for after dinner all right so um let’s see could it be banana pudding Peach CER no I’ll show y’all that’s okay I’ll show yall surpr me later well I want to show them they have’t so they’ll see it how about C with a CH no no how about a strawberry and whipped cream and vanilla wafers so yall look for that video that’s going to be out there waiting on you strawberries and whipped cream and you can do that with any kind of berry so y’all let me get this finished up and I’m going to come back and I’m going to show you what all this looks like once we pull it together okay I have the sausages cooked the peppers and onions are ready and like I said ours just diced chopped if you want to slice them you can the buns are warmed y’all saw how I steamed them over the skillet you ready to make one I’m ready now I’ve got a knife knife here if you want some mayonnaise sure and um I think I’m just going to go straight mustard I’m doing spicy mustard but I like to take my dog my bun rather and kind of open it up and kind of smash it so I’ve got more room that’s how you do yours too a’t it it is and I’m going to put a little bit of mustard on my bun my dog my mother when we would make hot dogs would take and put all of her condiments and Crut onions whatever she used on the bottom then she put her hot dog on the top uh if she had chili now she would save it and put it on the top but um like this uh-huh I put a little bit on the bottom a little bit on the top yeah but she said that way it didn’t fall off when she was eating and that was very smart but you see I didn’t do that so mine’s probably going to fall off you ready for one of these sausages I got the spicy but I’ve already put mine on okay I do did follow her on that and put it on the bottom Miss patchy came in somewhere yeah it was raining stepped over there and let her in yeah you ready for your dog sausage dog my sausage yeah okay now I’m going to put my um you may have to put yours on bottom where you going to put it I don’t know but I’ll figure it out split it open I’ll fold it open like that I am ready for this I have have been kind of waiting on this today and I so while you’re playing I’m going to go ahead and take a bite you go right ahead test what do you think mhm we didn’t have to drive all Tennessee to get one either no but that reminds me of the days we were going to the state fair mhm and it reminds me of Fanny farles and walking by and smelling those sausages and onions and peppers cooking you can smell them a block away you certainly can and if y’all and I know a lot of you go up there and y’all know what I’m talking about I hope y’all give this a try and you’ll enjoy them as much as we do and uh get your bite but we hope you’ll try them and uh I hope you enjoy them as much as we do and I also hope you’ll think about getting a copy of our cookbook we’re sure proud of it and uh we sold few cookbooks at the market Saturday and I like to say I have one recipe per page and there’s room for notes and there’s a table of contents in the back of the book and um so you can see there is a Your sausage dogs with peppers and onions looks delicious! I also put my mustard, ketchup and onions on the bottom of my bun. I chop and my onions and peppers and freeze them too. Great minds think alike! Take care, be safe, God bless!
