Over the weekend I had a serendipitous trip to an Indian market and picked up some split Fava beans. I have never had these before or made them so it was time to search for options. I found this recipe here, and I made my pot of beans loosely based on it with some other recipes.

Just did a taste test and these beans are yummy and since they are split should disappear into a thick texture.

I sautéed some onions in olive oil with a quick mix of garlic powder and chilies (Kashmiri, goat horn, and sirakhong hathei) that mix heat and smoke. I took whole cumin, toasted it, and crushed to to add to the pan. Then some crushed garlic. And the beans, water, and a bay leaf. Later I realized I wanted to put in saffron so I added a few threads. These didn’t take long too cook. Maybe 40 minutes of simmer at the video.

Will serve with a drizzle of olive oil and a squeeze of lemon.

The recipe as written looked tasty to me as week but I was starting with dry beans.
