First time baking 6 inch cakes, they're so cute c: The frosting didn't go on as smoothly as I hoped, but it still tasted great.

Mix of recipes from Sally's Baking Addiction. Strawberry cupcakes (has the correct volume of batter for 3 6" pans), cream cheese frosting from the strawberry cake recipe, lemon curd, and the leftover strawberry puree from the cake. I started with the full 9" size cake recipe before reading thru the comments to see the cupcake recipe is better fit for small cakes.

Not at all! This is the best present you will get today! Excitement and an entire cake 🙂

It’s your birthday, do what you want! I’ve gotten in trouble from my family many times for making my own birthday cake but I just like being able to make it myself😂

What a cute cake! It looks delicious. I love 6 inch ones. A perfect size for two empty nesters.

And no, you aren’t weird at all. If I don’t make my cake, nobody else will, and the store bought ones aren’t nearly as good.

Not at all. I get excited to make my own bday cake, too!

  5. I’ve been made fun of for doing it, but I don’t care. It’s my damn cake. I’ll make whatever I want.

I don’t think so. I also made my own birthday cake this year. It was a lemon cake with white chocolate ganache frosting and fresh raspberries. It was a lot of fun to make.

Ive been making mine the last few years. I like my recipes and i can make a cake cheaper than if i ordered it and i can pick the flavors – no matter how bizarre they are. My cake this year was earl grey with lemon italian buttercream. A cake that cost me $36cad to make and if i had ordered it custom it would have cost upwards of $110cad and im not guaranteed to like the icing or cake recipes. Plus its a sense of accomplishment to make an *almost* professional looking cake lol

And your cake has big stardew valley [pink cake](https://www.eater.com/24151538/stardew-valley-cookbook-pink-cake) vibes to it. Looks delicious!

It reminds me of the pink cake from Stardew Valley. Great job!

Noo, how is it weird? It’s your birthday and you should do whatever makes you happy! I baked my birthday cake a couple of years back and it was nice. 😀 also, happy birthday 🙂 the cake looks cute!

Nope. Nothing wrong with taking joy in doing something just for you now and again. ~~Plus, it can help with the stress of being reminded of aging and existence lol.~~ It honestly only recently struck me as something to do. I was feeling kind of sh*t due to circumstances, and instead of feeling down about it, made myself a birthday cake. I’m a practical baker, as in, I don’t make elaborate artsy cakes, as they’re often too sweet/decadent, time-consuming, and big to reasonably eat and store. I however hadn’t tackled cake rolls before (all the horror stories regarding cracks kinda put me off). I figured they’d be easier to store and defrost, and long story short, I’m still on a cake roll roll after trying one for my birthday haha

Do you find her strawberry frosting too sweet or rich? I’m a chantilly person so I’m unsure about the amount of butter and sugar called for. The crumb looks amazing, though.

    Happy birthday!
