They’ve closed a few locations in the last few years, so wouldn’t be surprised if they’re way over leveraged.

That’s too bad, I really loved Kuma’s food. I used to frequent their original location way back in the day before the burger craze took off.

Well, that does indeed look like a bankruptcy filing.

Chapter 11, Sub-Chapter V, is for small reorganization plans where they do intend to stay in business.

They never should have gotten rid of the Judas Priest burger.

if they just use a bun besides a pretzel bun…

I still go there somewhat frequently, but their rework of the menu coming out of covid was a joke.

They’ve dropped about half their regular burgers (though I think they’ve realized how foolish that was and are adding some back), they’ve dropped the notion of a Mac and cheese of the month completely, and they don’t have a new burger of the month every month.

Put simply, they’re not encouraging people who like their food (which has also dropped in quality) to go more frequently but rather less frequently.

As someone who used to work there:

    hopefully.

Just walked past the west loop location, was surprised it was closed.

This tracks… went to the Belmont location a few months ago on a Saturday at dinner time and it was half empty. Their burgers still taste solid to me.

Lair of the Minotaur was the greatest burger of all time. I can still taste that Brie. It was glorious back in the day.

Went to Schaumburg location a few months back and it was like a 45 minute wait at night. Plague Bringer was fantastic.

They did it to themselves by expanding so much, but also by being cop loving, piece of shit employers with shady practices. It was only a matter of time before the new owners took it down with their stupidity and greed.

They had a sour beer I liked. I never got the name. I wish I got the name. My dad likes them. Hopefully we can go back one last time

My husband and I were regulars before the pandemic. Still have many former server friends. The owner can get fucked. Ron drove it into the ground. He was a CPA who never should have taken over.

The only thing I’ll truly miss is the Sleep, and the sloppy Joe they make after Thanksgiving.

Kumas Holdings, LLC is undergoing the initial stages of Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, seeking to reorganize its debts under the oversight of a trustee, with several key motions and deadlines already set by the court.

Here are some key points about Chapter 11 bankruptcy in simple terms:

    * **Purpose**: Chapter 11 is a type of bankruptcy that allows businesses to reorganize their debts while continuing to operate. It aims to help businesses become profitable again.
    * **Debtor in Possession**: The business typically remains in control of its operations during the bankruptcy process, acting as a “debtor in possession.”
    * **Reorganization Plan**: The business creates a plan to reorganize its debts, which might include reducing debts, selling assets, or renegotiating terms with creditors.
    * **Creditors’ Approval**: The reorganization plan must be approved by the creditors and the bankruptcy court. Creditors vote on the plan, and if they agree, the court can confirm it.
    * **Automatic Stay**: When Chapter 11 is filed, an automatic stay goes into effect, which means creditors must stop all collection activities. This gives the business time to reorganize without pressure from creditors.
    * **Trustee Oversight**: A trustee may be appointed to oversee the business operations and ensure the reorganization plan is followed. In small business cases, this is often a “Subchapter V Trustee.”
    * **Protection and Restructuring**: Chapter 11 provides legal protection from creditors while the business works on restructuring its finances to become sustainable.
    * **Plan Confirmation**: If the court confirms the reorganization plan, the business continues to operate under the new terms. If not, the business might need to consider other options, including liquidation.
    * **Complex and Costly**: Chapter 11 can be complex and expensive, but it offers a chance for businesses to recover and stay open.
    * **Outcome**: Successful Chapter 11 reorganization can help a business emerge stronger and more financially stable.

I still love their food and frequent here regularly. I don’t understand the hate. They specialize in a certain type of burger in a time when many places are serving mediocre, 4oz smash burgers. 🤷

  17. Norm_Hall

20$ burgers and they still can’t pay the bills? Place is a ripoff now.

  18. Tora_jima

When Mike was running things they were more conservative about expanding the business. With Ron, opened too many locations, burger trends changed, the pandemic. And when they built that goofy dessert shop in the original Belmont spot, that definitely felt like a business flailing.

  19. Ah kuma’s corner…. My one and only memory of that place was going there with my ex-gf and her parents back in like 2009… ex-gf’s dad got so drunk he fell asleep at the table before his food got served. Should have seen the warning signs right there and then, and not wasted 10 years of my life.

The original brother who owned it was always super pleasant to me and everyone I know, I lived across the street when it opened, they had breakfast there in the beginning, would be in there 4 times a week, so I saw the whole ride. The second the asshole brother took over that was the end of that.

Should’ve never taken Black Sabbath off the menu. Da fuck is wrong with them.

  22. ProcessOptimal7586

They are top five on the list of awful restaurant people who couldn’t stfu about their politics and be decent and let the money roll in. Too bad so sad.

  23. ElMonstro26

Place kinda wasn’t the same since the head chef Amalia left back in like 2012 wonder what’s she’s up to now

  24. Slow-Paramedic71

Shit. I love Kuma’s so much. Their Plague Bringer burger is the best ever. Homemade chips & Mac and cheese are bomb. Housemade hot sauce, housemade ketchup – these little touches make their burgers amazing!

Well, these Fast Food bankruptcies don’t surprise me. It’s TOO EXPENSIVE to eat out now, so that’s why my wife and I are learning how to COPYCAT all the recipes that we like. So, we are eating at home and not ever going to spend about $20+/$25+ per person at some Fast Food restaurant. Anyone can easily copycat Chipotle or others by using online recipes — like [CulinaryHill.com](http://CulinaryHill.com)
