I usually enjoy Giant Eagle’s limited edition flavors for the seasons (such as pumpkin in the fall), and their Key Lime Pie ice cream is no exception.

Description
“Key lime ice cream with Graham cracker swirl.”
* Key lime ice cream: tastes like key lime (lime, condensed milk), but also has hints of lime sherbet such as from rainbow sherbet. Nice, bright, with lime and lemon juice concentrate, but also on the artificial side. I don’t mind.
* Density: standard economy. Good texture, no complaints.
* Graham cracker swirl: actually delicious! So buttery. Reminds me of the amazing Graham cracker swirl of Ben and Jerry’s Strawberry Shortcake (review) which I loved.
* Mix in amount: moderate. A little thin. I did want more. But sufficient.
Overall
- I think that the key lime flavor was a little bright (some sherbet taste) for the beautifully buttery Graham cracker swirl. While I’m not sure if the flavors 100% complemented, I did enjoy this ice cream and especially the swirl. Put me in a tropical mood. I think this is a good flavor to try if you enjoyed Ben and Jerry’s Strawberry Cheesecake, especially because of the value price.
- Rating: 7.5/10. Could be better, but that’s a very tasty swirl.
Other recommendations:
- Ben and Jerry’s – Strawberry Cheesecake. Great tasting swirl, as mentioned. The strawberry cheesecake base is pretty mild but probably pairs with the Graham cracker a little better.
- Perry’s – Key Lime Pie frozen yogurt. Key lime pie base with crushed Graham cracker. A unique gel like texture that reminds one of key lime pie. A similar but perhaps milkier like flavor. I don’t remember. The Graham cracker is less buttery but crunchier and complements nicely.
Which is better: Giant Eagle brand or Perry’s Key Lime Pie? Perry’s might be more cohesive and more texturally unique. But it is pretty awesome to find a great tasting Graham cracker swirl. Both good!

I’ve never had either brand but I love key lime pie from King’s Hawaiian restaurant. I should be on the look out for whatever brand of key lime they have at my stores.
