I posted a picture of this trellis my husband made for me at the beginning of the season. Some folks asked for an update when the beans came in. So here they are! These are Kentucky Wonder Pole beans. They were very prolific last year and tore down our first trellis attempt which was just cattle posts and wire. My husband out did himself this year with a permanent structure made from culled fence posts. The beans love it. They are climbing like crazy. I never thought they would go up and over the top but a few are half way. They are just starting to bloom. They are coming in much later than the Roma bush beans that I grew for 10 years, but on the plus side – no stooping over this year. I also posted a picture of our tomatoes and Silver Queen corn. I’m praying that I have a good harvest this year. Last year, I had beautiful corn stalks with no ears. We planted later this year, placed them farther apart and moved them closer to the fence so they get more sun. I have fertilized, and added micronutrients, such as calcium, and potassium. I also save my compost water and have used that too. So I’m on pins and needles waiting to see some silks.
