After high praise, I finally trekked up to Downstate Donuts on Wilson.

I definitely think they are deserving of their high praise.

Potato-based doughnuts are definitely different. From a texture perspective, these ticked all the boxes if you love soft and consistent. I also thought they were less sweet, which could be a benefit if you have a sensitive sweet tooth.

Unfortunately the Japanese pancake donut was out of stock, which is the one I wanted to try the most. But the pistachio donut, vanilla sour cream donut, and sweet potato maple donut, were good.

Although Beacon has yet to be dethroned as my top choice, I think I would put it on par with Doughnut Vault (but the doughnuts are so different, yet so good, it wouldn’t feel right saying one is better than the other).

Downstate Donuts in Uptown is worth the hike north!
