This is my first time canning anything. I’m not sure if these came out well. The jar on the right had a little bit of seepage, but quickly stopped. I’m concerned about the air bubbles at the top in the rest of the bottles though. Is this normal? If these aren’t good, I’d appreciate tips on where I may have gone wrong.

We can’t tell you where you may have gone wrong if you don’t share your recipe.

    Update:
3 of the 5 jars had large air gaps at the top after they cooled down for a bit. Both of the fuller ones had a little seepage onto the towel.

    The recipe I used:

    Fresh cut plums

    Syrup:
    5 1/2 cups water
    2 1/2 cups sugar
    Being to a boil

Sterilize jars, then fill with chopped fruit. Then fill with syrup to 1/2” from top. (I think I was closer to 1/4” from top.) Remove air bubbles.

Boil submerged in water at least 1” above tops for 20 minutes.

I think I may have over filled most of the jars and some seeped out into the water bath. It was tinted purple when I removed the jars.

What do you all think? Did I overfill with too much syrup?

Thank you for that advice. I will attempt another smaller batch with cooling and see how they come out.
