Granita is an ages-old treat and staple in Sicilian culture. And while Sicilians may enjoy it for breakfast, we love it for an icy summery dessert!

Think of this recipe as a frozen lemonade with the perfect tartness from fresh lemon juice. Add a dollop of sweetened ricotta for a touch of decadence. It truly the treat of the summer (plus we love anything with “lemon ricotta” in the name!)

I had a craving recently for one of my favorite childhood summer treats grenita the ritual of grenita goes back thousands of years in those times and this is pretty wild someone had the job of traveling to Mount Etna in Sicily to gather snow and conserve it in cold caves year round when summer rolled around Sicilians would purchase this harvested icy snow to turn it into a tasty treat which they now call grenita myodino was a big fan as well it was one of his favorite things to eat on hot summer day in Capri coffee granita topped with whipped cream was his favorite but I decided to create my own flavor lemon ricotta the texture is everything it’s like the perfect icy lemon slushie paired with creamy diot it’s the best treat on a warm day and of course I had to eat it with a Brios just like the Sicilians and for a moment I felt like a kid again
