Sometimes it's best to pull up the entire plant and dispose of it rather than letting the SVB Squash Vine Borers continue their cycle of destruction. This spaghetti squash plant was growing from my compost pile and looked like it was doing well, with many fruit on the vine, but it was a volunteer plant which started too early in the season making it susceptible to the borers and looking closely I could see early signs of damage from the borers. I went ahead and pulled up the entire plant and disposed of it. Look at all of the eggs on the vine! And there must have been 10 of the larvae in the vine that I found and cut in half. With any hope, at least this might have acted as a trap plant and stopped at least this many borers from continuing the cycle next year.
