My wife and I went to visit some distant relatives while we were in her home town visiting her parents. I got called to another room and was handed this because she heard I canned and this had become to heavy to use in recent years. I've used my presto 23qt for years with no problems and wasn't looking to upgrade. Certainly won't complain though!

Does anyone have any advice regarding the switch from a gasket based to a machined face seal? I was told to lightly oil the face. Any thoughts from y'all?

Thanks!

Tighten the bolts in a star pattern (zig-zagging across the diameter as though drawing a star) instead of tightening them in a sequential circle around the edge. It helps to more evenly distribute pressure.

  3. I oiled the rim the first time I used it based on advice on the internet and never did it after that. From my personal experience, the lid had never stuck. I think people had problems with it when they left the lid on too long. Tightening the bolts properly is very important because it can leak steam if not done right.

I used oil on the rim the first couple of times and it was fine after that, been over 5 years now.

When you put the lid on, look at it from eye level to make sure it is even on both sides, then rotate 90 degrees and level again. Then, tighten 2 screws opposite each other at the same time, but only finger tight. Then do the other 2 sets. Then go back to the first set and get them tight, and then the other 2.

If you tighten one at a time it could make the lid crooked.

I would ignore any advice you find online other than “read the manual and follow the instructions”.

Hopefully it came with manual. If not, contact AA and they sell them. Congratulations, and have a BALL canning. Haha. My AA is going to be the only thing fought over by the grandkids when I die.
