Having lived in LA for 18 years, I can say In-N-Out burgers might not wow you at first. It’s the consistent quality and repeated visits that make them special. They’ve become my favorite! Everyone has different tastes, but their consistency is unmatched.

I’ve tried In-N-Out several times each time changing restaurants just to see if there was a difference and I don’t like it I think they are way overrated.
As a European, it’s extremely perplexing that over half of the posts on this sub are about In-N-Out. And the comments always amount to ”it’s a solid, consistent fast food burger, but that’s it.”
Do they pay people to advertise here?

IMO, consistency is the key to fast food. McDonalds created it but has completely lost it. I agree that one of the reasons I love In and Out is because they are super consistent. Everyone else seems to be all over the place.
So, what your saying is, you eventually get used to mediocre.

Anyone can make a better burger at home, and you can buy better tasting ones for 3x the price. But this is the best fast food burger for the price with an overall excellent dining experience. This is why it’s always packed.
It’s also the antithesis to every major fast food chain. Their prices are still low despite inflation and they pay their workers very well. The workers show it with excellent customer service. Texans think it’s comparable to whataburger but they are mistaken, In N Out is the Buc-ees of California because of how well they pay their workers.

True! And their onion game is definitely unbeatable in the fast food/fast casual space. Even most restaurants! Don’t do onions as well.
It’s the only fast food place where I can stuff myself with multiple cheese burgers and animal fries and not feel like shit or have any regret.
I’ve had consistently great burgers from several places and didn’t need to convince myself it was supposed to be good. Shake Shack, Five Guys, Freddy’s, Culver’s, Whataburger.

Yo, California born, Washington raised. I’ve had fast food burgers all over the west coast. A double double is delicious. Their fries are hot garbage, even animal style. I’ll take Seattle’s Dick’s Deluxe and fries over In-N-Out any day. Also I’ve been to other joints that taste like In-N-Out, nobody can taste like Dick’s. (I know… hahaha)

Personally, being born in LA moving away for college and then coming back for med school and ultimately residency, I still think they are some of the worst fast food/fast casual burgers out there.
Shake shack for the win, with their superior quality ingredients, and better fries, I only wish Shake Shacks basic vanilla shake was as good as In-n-Out which is the superior fast food basic milkshake for me.
To summarize it, you have made me crave a burger, and no one can be mad at that!
The prices are always about half as everyone else too!
Shitty ass fries
I totally get this living in Texas. Everyone says Whataburger is king, but I have never received anything visually appealing there. It’s always slop in a wrapper and soggy ass fries. In N Out ain’t the best burger, but the fries are always fresh and the burger too. Whataburger is hot dog shit and cold anus hairs. Although I do fuck with their breakfast. The jalapeño cheddar biscuit with sausage egg and cheese. That goes hard.
It’s because being in California this is part of our culture. Even all of us as young kids can remember being fed this in n out because our parents ate it as well. It’s also the fact of price vs quality. They are not overly priced but all of the food is very very good.
