It’s FINALLY hotting up and things on the allotment plot have burst in to life. Flowers are popping and crops are starting to really get going now. Summer might not be quite so poor as we first feared.
In this episode I take drastic action to try to remedy the lack of sweetcorn crop on the vegetable garden. It’s Duncan’s favourite vegetable. Can I save him from disappointment?
I plant out some more crops, kindly given to me by Kerry from @dogontheplot , which is a new-to-me crop that I’m VERY excited to be trying to grow. Thank you Kerry!
There’s also some succession sowings planted out, when I feared earlier crops may have succumbed to the cold weather.
I visited RHS Tatton Flower Show with my niece and sister on Wednesday and take you for a brief look around the showground. It’s not too late to buy your tickets to visit this weekend!
Finally…I purchased something! Let me know if you like it, after I’ve built it.
Thank you.

Absolutely love it as well as the bird tap 👍🏻
I have purple amaranths as well. Didn't think they'd do much as they were slow, but they grow well, even in shadier spots, they just don't get that tall, which is fine on a balcony. I thought I'd might eat them, they taste like spinach, they say, but they are too beautiful.
I'm putting strawflowers on my list, they look and sound so cool. Thanks for the update, cute bike.
First on the list to listen to whilst at work ❤
It was me who recommended the Amaranthus only mine the slugs have all eaten 😬thanks for video
Corn is wind polinated, so should be planted in a 4×4 square at least 6×8 is best and different types should be 50ft apart as they will cross polinate. n I'm in Iowa – the corn state 😀
Sister swap Duncan!!! Sister swap. 😉😂😂❤️🥂
It’s a grow tower thingy
That's really cute. Love those strawflowers too. Do they dry well? I like purple statice as they dry really well and keep their colour.
What plans have you thrown out and mixed up in your gardens this year?
I’m growing several crops now that were never part of my garden plan for 2024.. and this is super exciting!
Thanks for watching. Have a lovely weekend ❤😊
😂😂 did you say by the end of the season, does he do what Gerald does and just rolls his eyes. Hope the corn does well, we buy ours directly from our l al farmer as support to them and it’s cheap as chips here. Like the idea of the BFB in pellets as I cringe when people use the powder in wind. Spring onions everywhere 👍👍. Flowers are stunning all over the farm ❤, have an amazing weekend, Ali 🌞🇨🇦
😂😂 on ya bike Mrs
I love that bike! It’s cute!!
Hey Clare.
Fingers crossed for your sweetcorn. I'm sure it'll do great in that bed. You shouldn't need to shake as the wind will do the job 😄
Garden is starting to look lush 💚🫶🏽
Clare it all looks wonderful! A credit to you! Love that bike!! I want one ❤❤ Danny 🌱
Clare- your garden is happy. It looks so great. I love your bicycle planter.
Strawflowers are stunning.
Best of luck with the sweetcorn. From what I know, your 2 varieties will probably cross pollinate, but they are both sweet, so it should work. We didn't have quite such poor weather but much wetter than usual, and a plague of (huge and tiny) slugs and snails, so I've had to resow lots of beans and cucumbers (cool weather didn't help). I've got lots of squash though, mostly my own saved seeds from last year, but some Crown Prince and Hokkaido, and Sweet Jack and one green one for seeds. I counted 27 for sure last night and probably more! I don't know where I'll store them all… But I think they end up hard enough to be mouse-proof, so maybe the barn. Wee Felix tries his best, and is a good hunter, but he's only one cat! I've hit Peak Courgette and today I must make relish… because now the cucumbers and runner beans are finally starting (very late). I have lost most brassicas to slugs, white fly and now caterpillars – was telling a neighbour this week that I'm going to build a British-style brassica cage next year! Your flowers are lovely and I like the bike! There's a garden in town where they have all sorts of quirky things like that and it always makes me smile!
Omg Clare I LOVE LOVE LOVE that bike planter!!!! That was a great video – really enjoyed it. Hope the amaranth does well. The varieties should be Love lies bleeding, Hot biscuit and Tricolour. I'm also putting out some last ditch sweetcorn today. Btw I decided not to plant two diff varieties together this year as I think that's the reason my corn didn't taste great last year – will be interested to see how mine turn out this year and if yours work ok.
Hi Clare, if those sweetcorn don't thrive in that luxury bed then they are fussy blighters 🌽 I am regretting not planting some amaranth, but it sounds like I'm not too late! Ps my Niwaki want list is getting longer and longer… added the Hori Hori to my birthday list 🤣
