Hi everyone,
I bought some cheese in the supermarket yesterday and in the shop they didn’t put it in a fridge, so when I got home I didn’t either. This morning I saw that on the back it says “refrigerate after purchasing”. I’m wondering if I can still eat this? I mean it was refrigerated in the shop either

Absolutely
Still good, many cheeses are far better at room temp or you can just consider it ‘partially melted’
Seems like it’s vacuum packed if it’s still good to the end of the year, so no problem.
“After purchasing” probably was meant to imply after opening
It’s surprising it was left out, was this in the Netherlands? I never saw these unrefrigerated in the shop. I don’t think there is a health risk but the consistency doesn’t improve at warmish temperatures, the cheese may start to ‘sweat’ a bit.
Vacuum sealed like this you can keep cheese for a long time at room temperature.
My local cheese shop has lots of cheese packaged, out in the open. Parm, manchego, etc.
I love cheese
KOEMELK
Cheese should be eaten at room temperature (or above in some circumstances) I ran a deli for ten years and did keep the cheese chilled in the shop but always recommended that the customer took their cheese out a least 2 hours before eating. Brings out the real taste. Runny cheeses like Brie love the warm air….
Eat it already!
Yes, dont worry, get it out of the plastic, it will be a little fatty but dont worry.
If you can, put it in the fridge and eat it in the next week or so.
This cheese matured for at least a year, and if there are no blue or grey dots then dont worry.
Some cheese shops dont refrigerate those cheeses for weeks. (Which i do not recommend).
Main thing: get it out of the plastic so it can “breathe”
Cheese was developed loooooong before refrigeration. It’s a way of creating a source of protein and fat that could be stored at room temperature. Those temps are mostly European ones and it was stored for long periods in cool places, but a day or so out in heat won’t hurt you.
