Heaven on earth does exist – and you can find it at the 33rd floor of Torre de Emperador in Madrid, Spain.
Upon entering the restaurant, you are greeted by a lovely host who will escort you up the third floor. Given that this meal was especially arranged for my family, we had the privilege to dine privately in a grand room away from the main dining hall where the rest of the Elkar diners stayed.
The degustation menu we had was a 10-course meal that also came with a wine pairing.
Here are three highlights to encapsulate this one-of-a-kind experience:
1) Asian twists that reminded me of home: Each course had a hint of asian ingredients! We started off the degustation with a tuna sashimi with kimchi that set the entire tone of the menu perfectly. High quality and mindfully chosen – tuna belly with roasted pepper jus that brought me to Japan and Mellow rice with iberian pork so deep and rich in flavor it brought me back to my home country, Philippines.
2) Top-notch alcohol found in each dish: Alcohol in dishes can easily overpower the dish, but at Elkar, you get just the right amount. The Beurre-blanc sauce had the perfect hint of sweet champagne that paired with the warm and smokey grouper and the Foie gras and cinnamon bread was accompanied by an emulsion of Fundador 18 years old – so delicious I wouldn't have known it was brandy!
3) The finest dining experience: It is no surprise that a world renown alcoholic beverage company carefully chose an amazing spread of beverages that perfectly complemented each course. The finest alcohol could only offer the finest dining experience I've ever had in my life – so far.
Muy muy muy maginifico, Elkar! Until we meet again 💫
