I just had this homemade burger for lunch and it was amazing, but I used mozzarella cheese instead of American cheese (that’s the only thing I had available at home). However, I was wondering if there’s any other type of cheeses that would taste better in a hamburger. I usually use American but most of the times I can barely taste it when I take a bite, so what are your thoughts about the best cheese for a burger?

Personally I use multiple cheeses myself. Pepper jack below the patty, cheddar on top of the patty. Sometimes American below the patty and provolone on top. It’s all about preference. No such thing as a “perfect” cheese for a burger. Always use what YOU enjoy.
For everyday burgers – American. Special occasions – gruyere.
I used swiss cheese last time and everyone loved it
All down to personal preference, of course. I turn the cheeses I use into “American cheese” for burgers using sodium citrate. I prefer how it melts. A nice blend of Cheddar, Gruyere, and Pecorino made into American cheese is superb.
Whatever you like. Cheddar, pepper jack, Colby jack, American, provolone, Swiss, even Velveeta if that is what you want. I have had every one of these on a burger.
Depends on the burger.
Smash – shitty melty american, Thicker, pub style burgers – it depends on what toppings.
There is no perfect cheese, just the wrong cheese on a smashburger.
I’ve become a bit of a minimalist on burgers. My preference is:
Seasoned with salt/pepper, smashed, **American Cheese,** no bun, no condiments.
I always prefer nice slices of Gouda. They melt beautifully
American or some kind of soft cheese like havarti
Kraft single
I like some smoked provolone.
Deli Style American. It’s melts just right.
If you want to get special… make your own American cheese with sodium citrate and premium/smoked/fancier cheeses.
Gouda is pretty nice.
American
Jarlsberg 💯
Yes.
Chedder and sometimes swiss but those are definitely the worst kind of fries with a burger
American n cheddar
I found goats milk cheddar at a farmers market once. Amazing on a burger. Use sparingly it’s strong!
Whatever cheese you like best on it. If you’re cooking a burger for yourself just cook it for your taste. Not for some conventional wisdom.
yellow American from the deli
I like a marble 👍👍
Swiss with pineapple on top. My favorite combo.
American.
When feeling fancy bleu.
The one good use for American cheese.
Yes
When I make my own, Sharp Cheddar or Swiss. When I eat out, American.
Murican
Smoked gouda, provolone, sharp cheddar, gruyere, & swiss are my favorites.
