Went to this small indie restaurant "Atomix" yesterday, really underground and doesn't get a lot of press so thought I would share my experience.

Ok jokes aside, dining at Atomix was an absolute pleasure and I am shocked they haven't earned their third star yet seeing as they are head and shoulders above every place I've tried in nyc including the current 3 stars. I never went to the "old" Atomix so I can't speak to whether their quality has declined, but I was blown away by nearly every dish, and even the ones that weren't standouts were still delicious. Personal favorites include the jjim (pic 5), ganjang gejang (pic 6) and the black chestnut dessert (final pic), as well as a bluefin tuna course I forgot to take a picture of. Did not get a wine pairing but had several cocktails which ranged from good to excellent. Service was impeccable, perfect balance of attentive and welcoming, none of the stuffiness that people tend to associate with fine dining. And details like getting to pick your own set of chopsticks and the menu cards are fun albeit a little gimmicky. All in this meal was about $550 ($420 for the meal + $130 for cocktails), which is obviously a lot of money but still felt like a better value than a lot of other 2 stars in the city (looking at you, Atera) due to how unique the dishes and flavors were. While I don't know if this is the best restaurant in the United States (the world's 50 best is a stupid list anyway), I'm not sure if I can name anywhere else more deserving, and I highly recommend anyone who hasn't tried it yet to try and get a reservation.
