Follow up reviews to my 3 nights Bangkok visit.

Selected pictures from all 3 (1-6 Gaggan, 7-12 Suhring, 13 onwards Sorn).

Personal rating out of 10.

Night 1: Gaggan (Experience 7.5: Food: 6.5)

  • Was lucky to have Gaggan being present from start to end as the “conductor” for what is a food orchestra
  • Gaggan warned us that this place in its latest iteration is not really a restaurant, and it’s not just about the food. He even acknowledged critics that say the food is not that good… loll
  • Well yes the food absolutely cannot stand on its own here, it needs the other sensory elements including compulsory pairing built into ticket price (really helps to get into the mood haha)
  • Unique experience but not sure it’s a repeat visit kind of restaurant. My rating is generous due to presence of the man himself

Night 2: Suhring (Overall: 8.5/10)

  • Wow
  • Why is this not 3 stars again?
  • Really tasty. I like all the courses. Faultless.
  • Much better than Facil in Berlin (2 stars). Who knew the best German food is in Bangkok?
  • Actually might just be the best restaurant I’ve visited (3 stars visit comparison as reference: Les Amis, Zen, Odette, RGR, Per Se, LB)
  • Maybe i should not revisit in case it’s a fluke and just keep the memories of the food

Night 3: Sorn (Overall: 7.5/10)

  • Really tasty food. Spicy at the upper end of tolerable range for me
  • Bite sized “snacks” in the beginning are sublime and offer unique takes on the flavour
  • I am used to Southern Thai food (and its variation in the region) so the main course and dessert did not push the boundary enough for me
  • I can totally see this being rated higher for those not familiar with the trad dish it took the inspiration from
  • Still very solid food worthy of 2 stars. Dessert “explosion” at the end reminded me of Per Se

  1. I personally didn’t like Suhring at all. I felt like too much emphasis was placed on aesthetics over the taste.

  2. Suhring was great but I liked Zen better. Sorn is fantastic every time I visit. Gaggan was mid imo. Les amis and Odette aren’t as good as Zen imo. I really enjoyed Baan Tepa and Potong when I visited this month.

  3. Absolutely adore Suhring. I’ve been three times, 2014, 2017, 2019. All amazing. The spätzle! The eggnog! And the twins and the team are just the sweetest. Recommend 100%.

Agreed. Gaggan is an experience more than a meal. I couldn’t agree more about the theatrics – it’s like watching an art performance. Who else serves you a “rat brain”? It’s all part of the fun.

If you’re expecting a traditional dinner with classic Indian flavors, you might be thrown off. It’s all about embracing the unexpected and being open to new presentations. That’s what makes it such a memorable place for us.

Try ore next time instead of gaggan. Just so much better in every sense.
