It looks like it could’ve rested longer

Let the meat sit out for 30 minutes or so before cooking so it cooks more evenly

Use a thermometer next time
Ok-Patient-6010
Here’s an okay starting point it covers the basics, and def get a meat thermometer they are like 5 bucks for a basic one ,get good with the basic approach and then start to step up your game https://youtu.be/PFDElc5sfSM?si=dQ6u-uNeQx7VzXIk

if the outside is cooking too fast that you’re ending up with a raw center, lower the heat to medium and flip every 60-90 seconds. the longer it stays on the heat, the more it will cook

I don’t have tips to give as I am learning myself. Your steak looks like a rare to medium rare. I’d happily enjoy that for lunch or dinner.

Overall its not bad. Just cook it a tad longer? Maybe use indirect heat pre or post sear. If on a bbq, turn one side down low & one side on high. Sear each side and move to the lower temp side. If in a pan, sear each side and finish in the oven.
Or do in reverse. Use a meat thermometer & cook on low heat until the temp is close to what you want. Then sear it off and let it rest

I like blue rare. But if you’re going to the trouble of steak frites try a sauce au poivre or a béarnaise. Truly magical

Could be meat is too cold when cooking. If that not the case just cook a little longer. Sous vide and reverse sear can also solve your issue.

Looks perfect to me! 🤤 I love steaks with a raw center!

If you’re cooking from cold, don’t. Let the meat get to room temp before starting cooking

Reverse sear is the way. It’s basically foolproof. Pop a thermometer in the steak and stick it in a 250 degree oven till its almost where you like it then toss it in a hot ass pan to get the crust. It takes awhile longer than pan frying but it’s hard to screw up and easy to dial in the perfect steak.
Those fries look damn good btw

How did you do the fries?
CyclingHokage
Just a tad more cooking. Otherwise it’s very visually appealing. Practice makes perfect

A lot of folks here will grill you for the temperature you cooked it to.
They’re all wrong.
Rare steak is amazing and this looks like a seriously good rare cook job. Fries look delicious also, there just needs to be more of them
Epicurean1973
Bringing you steak to room temp before cooking helps with the end product if you’re doing everything right but that

Sous vide then sear as hot as you can
phatmatt593
I’d certainly gobble that up. Depends on what you like.
I like mine rare too. To get even cooking throughout, like some people saying is similar to what I do. Take the steak out 30 min before cooking, but I cook it on high to get that nice sear, then let it sit for 3ish minutes before eating.

Bit rare for me, but looks good

Steak is way too rare for my liking but the garlic sauce on top looks phenomenal.
EstablishmentNo9866
A little undercooked but the fries look perfect

You’re cooking it from too cold. The middle shouldn’t be this blue still with the doneness of the outsides.
LordFardbottom
A little bit longer and you nailed it. Also let me decide how much condiment I want; make a puddle or put it on the side.
LordFalcoSparverius
More frites.
Emcee_nobody
More frites for sure
Starlord1951
Wow, that’s a winner, the steak and fries both nicely done! That’s the way I like my steak, running in fear from my fork. 😍
KingseekerCasual
Could be a little more done in the middle but as others said I think that can be done by getting an even temp by measurement and letting it rest some
Forgot_Password_Dude
it looks like you grilled it out in the open without a cover, thus center raw ish, perhaps if you do the same thing but, cover it for 3 mins of each side and it’ll be great
futang17
lower heat for longer then sear. Don’t even bother to let meat sit for 30 mins but that only brings it down by 1-2F at most to…
For those let your meat rest at room temp before cooking, take the temp right after taking out of fridge then take temp after sitting for 30mins.
AngryOneEyedGod
Use a bigger steak next time and more fries!
paintstudiodisaster
Throw it in the microwave for a quick minute. Enjoy!!

If you blanch your fries in boiling water for 4 minutes, let them cool, then shake them up in some cornstarch, you can fry them at 350 and get crispy fries at home.
Blanching time depends on thickness of the fries.
There are more complicated ways to make fries at home, but you being a beginning cook, that is the best option.
