Another Fukuoka restaurant, Goh, which is run by Chef Goh Fukuyama. Serving imaginative french japanese menu, it has been featured on Asia’s top 50 list.

Restaurant itself is situated next to shopping complexes and by the Naka river, sharing a building space with 3 other restaurant/bars with some collaboration with Chef Gaggan Anand. The interior of Goh looks modern and chic, with stunning view of the river especially during sunset while dining.

Menu consisted of in order:

  • white asparagus, butterbur and Shiso (2nd pic)
  • basashi, uni, leek (3rd pic)
  • toro, tomato, beetroot (4th)
  • abalone, shiitake mushroom, seaweed (5th)
  • green peas, citrus, konbu (6th)
  • flounder, spring onion (1st)
  • lamb, watercress, broad bean (7th)
  • crab curry rice (8th)
  • loquat, oliver oil, estragon (9th)
  • sakura madelaine (10th) served with tea

Before we began dining, chef Goh introduced himself to each group individually. He spoke some english but a waiter was much more fluent and translating for those who preferred English. As we began, the kitchen space was revealed behind screen doors and it was like a performance was beginning when curtains opened.

The food itself was above average but nothing spectacular. Staff were friendly, I chatted with chef Goh and a few of the staff members and they were always trying to engage with other diners whenever they could. Service was definitely up to par, kind of let down with the food but i loved the flounder and tomato dishes. At the end of the meal chef Goh took time to take pictures with each guest

Overall, i would rate the meal:

Food: 7.75
Atmosphere: 9.5
Service: 10

Meal was ¥19800, I felt ok with the cost of the meal but I don’t think I would go back again.
