Of course they are. The gate keeping on this sub sometimes is gross. Some of us are good with jalapeños, others want a reaper mash and some how aren’t satisfied with that. I love datils, habanero, scotch bonnets and probably other peppers around that SHU range, because they have good flavor. I do eat Haunted ghost chips and the worst thing I’ve ever done is the 1 chip.

It depends on who you’re cooking for. In people who eat lots of really spicy food, the TRPV1 receptors undergo desensitization, and capsaicin becomes less effective. Some people might find them very hot or pleasantly spicy, and others may not notice them at all. There are also genetic factors that play into receptivity to capsaicin.

The jalapenos for poppers are a specialized substrain with a scoville rating closer to 3500. Standard Japanese are between 4000-5000. Source; I grow lots of peppers. And have worked in restaurant biz.
