  1. I grew my dill in a patch in my garden, but it started falling over. We propped it up with string. I used to just scatter it around the yard, but this is a new yard, and I had do give it a dedicated space. It’s just so unruly! Suggestions?

My scraggly dill and I are jealous of your copious amounts of dill.

  3. superphage

I don’t because the squirrels stole mine 3 times this year. I have never had it happen.

  4. texas-blondie

I have yet to had luck with dill so I just get mine at the farmers market lol

  5. primerush

Being a weed I assumed that dill would be easy but I tried growing it in a pot this season and it has struggled immensely. I can smell your patch through the screen and I am super jealous!

  6. whatever_meh

It just shows up and I pull it anywhere I can’t tolerate it. It’s nice to leave extra if you can for the pollinators and caterpillars.

The dill I planted in a pretty row in the garden and water daily is puny. The dill that volunteered out in the onion patch and gets no care and minimal water is huge and thriving.

so jealous. How hot does it get where you live?

  9. tu-BROOKE-ulosis

I had really good luck grown in a raised bed container. You know, like the kind with wheels. I didn’t do anything except water it semi regularly. Then it got hot and bolted so I ripped it out.

  10. Izacundo1

I plant it, almost none of the seeds actually sprout, and eventually I have one super tall plant that bolts instantly

  11. My cilantro and dill are grown in a flower box separate from the veggie garden. They reseed themselves every year. Love that little box.

  12. TotallyHumanPerson

Involuntarily. They grow out of the cracks in my driveway and do better than the ones I tried growing in pots on my balcony.

  13. Glindanorth

My dill self-seeds with enthusiasm, so wherever it shows up, it grows.

  14. Icedcoffeeee

I don’t! We have black swallowtails in huge numbers here. I grow those.

I have failed at growing any dill for years. This year I just said “ef it” and threw a generous amount of seeds in peat pot. Never thinned. Cut off bottom in spring and jammed it in to my garden. I now have a lush dill mass with less effort than I ever did before.

  16. Financial_General155

I just plant it in a corner of my raised bed and let it do its thing. It seems to attract all the caterpillars as their main food source 😀.

  17. The dill I planted looks like crap – the volunteer dill that reseeded itself looks wonderful.

  18. Accountantnotbot

I guess in this group you’re kind of a big dill?

  19. bristlybits

I grow it mixed in with orach. they are opposite colors and both get very tall so it’s pretty food.

  20. CanIgetaWTF

Not small. Tell you that. Large.

Some even say, it’s kind of a big dill

  21. Illustrious-Pie6323

I highly recommend mammoth dill. First year growing it and it’s been great at attracting pollinators. Very fun to grow and obviously gigantic as the name states

  22. Ok-Battle5059

I’m jealous, every time I try to grow dill it either bolts or I have ants form a nest in the roots

  23. WestCoastVeggie

    What is your secret?!?
I’ve never had such a tough time growing something people call a weed!
I’ve tried multiple varieties both big and small and the best I get are a couple sprigs less than a foot tall. This year I sowed 3 packs of dill seeds in various locations yet I don’t have enough for making even one jar of pickles! I planted a bunch in the same raised bed as my cucumber plants and the cucs are thriving, but not the dill.
How often do you water? Do you let it dry out between watering? Do you fertilize?

  24. AceofSprades

One does not simply grow dill. A choice is made and then it spreads like freedom when the helldivers arrive

  25. Initialfaust

i toss dill in wherever i can fit it. i dont have a dedicated herb garden they are just all interplanted except for some invasive shit like mint that stuff goes in pots.

  26. hautecello

I planted mine with a zucchini and it was fighting for its life last month. Haven’t seen it since.

  27. I put it in a pot, then I cultivate a large crop of aphids, followed by a large crop of ladybugs. t
Then the dill perishes, the ladybugs fuck off to somewhere else instead of helping the rest of my aphid infested garden, and I compost the dried up dill stems. Repeat.

  28. oompaloompa_grabber

I planted it like 3 years ago and it still appears throughout my lawn. In certain parts of the lawn it smells so strongly of dill when I mow it

  29. Ritalynns

It grew great for a few years. Every year after that I’ve been able to harvest what I need early for freezing but then it goes to seed while it’s still small or gets rust and full of aphids.
