Just made a regular old round loaf in the Dutch oven. She sang me this song after. I love her. Can someone explain

If it just came out of the oven, that’s quite normal as it keeps baking for a few more minutes while the temperature drops.

I can hear cracking too in my sourdough if I listen closely.

The crust is shrinking in reaction to going from 200c to 21c, and I guess produces an audible indication of that. It’s a sign of good baking!

I’ve heard it said that ‘good bread talks to you’

    It’s talking.

But, yeah, like others have said, it’s the crust contracting from cooling.
    Indicates (usually) a good bake.

The question has been answered, but I feel like it might help to understand that this sound doesn’t happen when there is still too much moisture in the bread. That moisture continues to create steam and results in a soggy/silent crust.

The crackle tells you that you did good.

LOOKS and SOUNDS AMAZING! I feel like not scoring the bread actually adds to it. It’s a minimalist approach, let the bread do the talking.
