I have made this for years. So has my sister. You're right that it's in every Southern cook's recipe collection! In the winter I make it with frozen blueberries. Nothing is better than South Carolina peaches, but the blueberries are good, too!

My grandmother always made this with same ingredients but a different way to prepare it. Melt the butter in a 9×13 dish, mix the flour, sugar and milk and put it over the melted butter. Have the peaches or other fruit hot (I put sugar on them and heat them just until hot in a pan and the juices flow) then pour the fruit over the batter. The batter rises to the top. Delicious. I am going to try it your way too. ❤

One of my favorite desserts
When I make this kind of cobbler, I sprinkle some cinnamon on top after pouring the batter over the peaches. Makes it so good! I also put a dash of vanilla and a dash of nutmeg in the batter. Try it. You won't go back.

We LOVE this at our house! Try this with BUTTERMILK instead and chip up butter over the top and sprinkle sugar over that for a sweet crispy top you will go crazy over!!!! You will definitely thank me!
The movie Steel Magnolias has a similar recipe that Dolly Parton's character mentions. The only difference is that the recipe from the movie does not add a stick of butter and it uses canned peaches. I really need to try this out. ❤❤❤
