Soda and cake are both a treat for them. I don’t understand why they both (13 and 8) were so disgusted by the idea of their favorite treats being combined. I even told them it’s what they have ate at Cracker Barrel.

Anyways, I have a full sheet cake left if anyone wants some…

That’s a shame. Reminds me of when I made a carrot cake for my (toddler) niece’s birthday. But she understood “parrot cake” and refused to eat it because she loves birds and thinks I put parrots in the cake, even after I explained it to her 🙁

  2. I could see them turning their noses up at mayo because it seems like a weird ingredient (but is essential for a moist chocolate cake!) but a soda that they already like is a stumper.

One my favorites from childhood! My Mom would make this, what a wonderful memory! ❤️

  4. Teenagers can be weird about food. I just found out about pop as an ingredient in cake a few years ago and at first it made me go wtf but I’d definitely try it. It looks delicious

I definitely want some! I’ll bring you some coffee and maybe even a little rum to go with it, if you want.

More for you! I guess just tell them it’s just chocolate cake 🤣🤣🤣

I’d eat that whole thing and the pan you baked it in if I were a kid, not a middle-aged man with high triglycerides.

  8. Rookie mistake! Never tell them the weird ingredient til they’ve tasted it

I used to have a Veteran on my caseload that I would regularly pop in to see a few times a year… once he knew I was coming and he baked me a soda cake but with GRAPE soda. Well, I don’t really like grape ANYTHING, but it was such a thoughtful gesture that I wrapped it up and took it home for my husband/kiddos. He was so proud of himself… just an old widow who learned to cook and bake after his wife died (because he missed her… and her desserts, ha.)

Later that night I got hit by the munchies BAD and decided to taste that cake. Holy CRAP it was DELICIOUS! Just a grape soda + box of yellow cake mix. It was moist, decadent, and SO good. My husband didn’t get but just a teensy piece. LOL

Do you have a recipe link? That genuinely sounds really good!!

  11. This looks delicious!!! I had pulled pork made with Coca Cola and it was amazing. Surprisingly versatile ingredient.

  12. Can I have a slice? 😂 I’d happily eat that any day of the week. Your kids don’t know what they’re missing.

I made zucchini cake one time and my siblings refused to try it because they found out it had zucchini in it.
A few days later, my brother noticed the cake in the fridge and forgot I made zucchini cake, assumed it was some other random dessert, he tried a piece and loved it.

Your icing is so nice and smooth. That’s the hard part. Sometimes the cooked icing comes out gritty. I’d definitely have a big slice, preferably cold from the fridge with iced coffee (for breakfast?).

They wouldn’t even taste it?? It looks really good.

My sister is what I call “ye of little faith” when it comes to things I make. The funniest was when I was making grape jelly meatballs. I thought she was going to vomit when she saw me mixing grape jelly and chili sauce together and pouring it over the meatballs in the crock pot. When they were done she bravely took a nibble and was hooked. She even took a container home, lol!

  15. My great grandma used to make that cake and one it was heavenly!!!

Kids are dumb, I try to get my daughter (9),to realize every damn time that she likes lettuce, she likes cheese, she likes burgers, she likes pickles, she would probably like all of them together. But no, plain ass burger every time🤦‍♂️

I had something like this happen with a roommate’s kids. I made calzones and they wouldn’t try it. Did finally get them to give them a shot when I explained that it was basically pizza that you dip in the sauce. One of the highest culinary compliments came from her 6 year old daughter telling me it was the best thing she’d ever tasted.

Don’t feel bad. You’ve got to remember that these are just simple children. These are people of tomorrow. The common clay of the next generation. You know… morons.

My granny used to make this all the time for me. I’d love to make some one day

  20. My daughter won’t eat the chocolate cake from Portillo’s because it has mayo in it.
