Had heard some lukewarm reviews of Anne-Sophie Pic’s new venture in HK so went in with low(er) expectations. Friends who had visited generally agreed that the stunning views and decor largely overshadowed the food, which was just OK. The restaurant also received 1 star within a few months of opening, so I was naturally a little 🤨🤨🤨. Decided to come for lunch to try it out since dinner would set us back at least HKD2,380 (~USD300) per person.

Turns out these reviews were exactly on point. Plating, presentation, service, interior design, vibes etc. were all top-notch. But the flavours just weren’t quite there – both main courses on the lunch menu (sea bass and pork rack) were quite bland. The first course, which was essentially an elevated take on zoodles, was light and refreshing but also felt lazy and unoriginal.

The one dish that did stand out was the signature pasta filled with comte and served in a really delicious mushroom consomme. I also enjoyed my dessert, – pineapple, a tasty verbena sorbet, and some pistachio croustillan garnished with a cool trompe l’oeil lovage leaf that was made of a super-thin wafer biscuit.
